Rude Behavior At Disney

ok, way back when I explained this already but I will explain it again.

I'm at the Shades of Green bus stop. Waiting for the bus to TTC. It's the only bus that's coming and my party is sitting waiting. No one is there. Groups arrive after us, they see us sitting. Bus pulls up and we all stand trying not to crowd the bus, making sure our kids don't get run over but yes, of course we stand and get ready to board, after people get off the bus, and the other folks who arrived after us jump on the bus first. There is only one bus coming.

Alternatively, we're at the SOG bus stop at the TTC. The bus is ONLY going to SOG. We're waiting on the bench. People arrive after us and stand where they assume the bus will stop. The bus appears in the parking lot and we all stand waiting for it to make it's way around the parking lot People jump on the bus in front of us even though we've stood and it's clear that we're waiting for the only bus that is going to come to that bus stop.

I have sometimes said "excuse me but we WERE waiting for this bus" but most often manners dictate that it's impolite to call out other people on their rudeness so we just let it go.

On the other hand, I have been at multi bus stops and I have simply said to those waiting "excuse me, what bus are you waiting for?" and then I know - ok, you're waiting for epcot, I'm waiting for mk. good enough. We all know what bus we're waiting for and we'll all board in the order which we arrived.

I'm really not sure why this is hard to comprehend. If someone is THERE before you then they are first. Not you. And unless Santa's Sleigh is routinely pulling up to the bus stop then chances are pretty good that the people waiting are waiting for a bus.

You have to make a choice. Either you get to sit and relax on the bench, OR you get at the front of the line. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.:cake:

Why should I assume they're taking the same bus I am? I'm going to MK. I'm going to get on the MK bus. If they're going to Epcot, they're not going to get on the MK bus.

I don't think I should have to keep track of everyone at the bus stop's destination. What if after I ask them where they are going, they get off the bench and someone else sits down. I have to make sure I see that and ask the new bench sitters where they are going. And I have to remove the original party from the bench sitter destination list.

If I am a bench sitter, I think I would be annoyed being asked by 20 different people asking where I am going.

The resort bus stops don't have lines anyway. They have a single shelter and you never know where the bus doors are going to be when the bus stops so there is no way to know where to line up.

AND, apparently, I'm going to have to keep track of which bench sitters were there before I showed up and which sat down after I showed up.

Then there are those that were sitting when I showed up but then got off the bench to board a bus and then someone else sits. So, I have to keep track of the standers too. That's A LOT of parties to keep track of.

There are at least a half dozen benches at any resort bus stop. Keeping track of potentially multiple parties for each bench is going to give me a headache.

I think I'm going to have to bring my laptop and develop a spreadsheet to do what is apparently required to take a WDW bus to MK.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

There could be another level of complexity. What if there are multiple people/parties sitting on the same bench. Then I have twice or three times as many destinations to keep track of.

I think I'm going to rent a car.....

This is starting to sound like the Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First" sketch but only 10 times more complicated.

Y'all did see the mod warning many, many pages back about knocking off the "bus wars," right?

Bets are open on how much longer before this sucker gets locked.

Wow, wow, wow. Lots of rude words and snippy statements.

I read these comments every few pages... not all of them mind you. But am shocked the bus debate is still going on. I wanted to comment on it but didn't thinking maybe it was finally dying out and not wanting to drudge it up again.... but since it is still going on ~ I will through out my 2 cents FWIW.

Bus: If there is a line and you aren't in the line ~ you are NOT the line leader. And really ~ the only issue should be when there is a lot of people waiting around otherwise everyone is getting on the bus and WHAT difference does it make what order? If you want a seat on the bus and it looks like it is going to be full ~ give up your seat at the bus stop so that you can get one for the ride. Please... there are at least 6 different buses (maybe 7?) how the heck do I know what one you are waiting for. Also FWIW ~ I am a bench sitter and typically wait for everyone to get on before I do.

ECV/Runners/Walkers/Crawlers ~ I don't really care how you get around the park..... be mindful that there are other people around you who don't want to be elbowed, pushed, shoved, run over or otherwise touched by you. IF you hit, elbow, push, shove, run over or otherwise touch another person for GOD'S Sake say "Excuse me!" my 3.5 year old knows to do this... why don't adults???

Rules ~ the rules are there for everyone. Yes ~ even YOU! If the sign says no flash photography ~ yes it is directed at YOU. If the CM says move all the way to the end of the row ~ rest assured they are talking to YOU ~ and if you didn't want to sit at the end ~ maybe you shouldn't have thrown me an elbow to get in front of me and my family and enter the theater first. If you child doesn't meet a height requirement... they don't ride.

Kids ~ your kids are YOUR responsibility ~ you choose to have them ~ you choose to have them on vacation with you. Make them follow the rules of "Disney" and society. Teach them to say excuse me or sorry, that not everything is theirs for the taking. Know your child before you go and plan your trip around what they can handle ~ my children are not allowed to have full on meltdowns in the middle of crowd ruining everyones good time ~ I don't want to hear your kid screaming bloody murder while you look straight ahead pretending like you don't hear it. Get out of line ~ deal with the issue ~ reacess and see if maybe your family needs a break.

I don't understand why people in crowds or on vacation or I don't know what the reason ~ feel like all of a sudden all things in the real world that would be considered the right thing to do fly out the window???

:thumbsup2 You said sister!

I think the general concensus is:

If you are on the bench, you are not in line for boarding the bus; and are not entitled to board before those standing.

HOWEVER: If one or two members of your party (grandma who can't stand too long or maybe mom and baby) NEED to use the bench because it is not possible for them to stand with the rest of the party, then they SHOULD be allowed to board before the people who arrived after you.

Also, If all members of your party are unable to stand, I would recommend actually TALKING to anyone else who arrives and explaing your situation. I know that is someone sitting on the bench explained to me that they could not stand wait in the queue, then I would allow them to board before me.

More on being rude. How about the person trying to take a picture of The Living Seas/The Seas with Nemo rock display at the front, standing about 20 feet away waiting for the action and getting annoyed when someone walks in the frame just as the water splashes. On a quiet day you can maybe get the shot but most times you just gotta live with some new friends in your picture.

I read the first few pages, and then skipped to last couple, just in time to catch the tail end of the 'bus wars' saga. I'm not even going to go there except to say that to be 'first in line', you obviously must first be IN the line.

To respond to the OP's question, immediately upon arriving home after each trip to WDW, I could probably tell you of at least one rude encounter we had while on that trip. However, with time, the only memories I seem to retain are the magical ones. The rude people seem to fade in my memory.

The one exception to this is an exchange we overheard about 4 years ago. While my children (all teens or near teens) had gone to ride the teacups, DH and I decided to take a much needed time out to sit for a few minutes. A short distance from us, there was a family consisting of a mom, dad and 2 small girls. Both little girls were sobbing quietly while their mother screamed at them loudly. At one point, we faintly heard one child ask her mother if they were still going to go see Mickey. The mother responded by screaming at her "No! Mickey told me that he hates you and never wants to see you again!!!"

It actually brought tears to my eyes and I have never forgotten it. I so badly wanted to say something to her, but DH (probably wisely) grabbed my arm. I still wonder if not speaking up was the wrong thing to do. It was certainly against my nature not to say something to her.

THere are some joint conditions that are also much more painful when standing in one place for a long time , while walking uses different muscles and joint movements and is less painful.

Even a really bad back creates that problem for me. I have no problem with walking miles and miles, but once I stop and stand for any period of time, it's agony. I don't use an ECV, but I can certainly envision a time when I'll need to.

So let me get this correct, it's rude for someone to enjoy a open scene and everyone must stay away from it until you take a picture of it? Kinda self centered don't ya think?

again, if you cannot figure out that a person WAITING AT A BUS STOP is waiting for a bus, then there is no hope that you would ever realize that your behavior is anything less than stellar. And how do you know that most people don't agree with me? have you seen my pm's? no you haven't. Most people are loathe to fight with idiots so they simply stay quiet and send me cute little notes about how we should have signs that say "I'm waiting for a bus, you moron"

Well they have benches next to the rides, so does that mean if my family is sitting there then we have the right to be first:confused3

No my point was the one taking the picture was being rude by getting annoyed because someone walked through his shot just as the action was happening. It is rude to walk in front of a family trying to take a obvious group picture. It is a totally different thing if you expect to take a, for lack of a better term, landscape photo and expect people to realize what you are doing. Two versions of a RUDE photo op.

No,maybe they should have tickets like at the lunch meat counter?:lmao:

That is so sad!

Ranks up there with parents who threaten their kids that the police are going to come and take them off to jail (unless they're really coming to take them to jail, of course! :rotfl2: )

To get myself off of the Big Bus Stop Debate, here is something that happened to me and my mom the last time we were both at Disney World.

We were standing on Main Street waiting for Wishes to begin. Even though it was October, it was wall to wall people. So much so that it was making me feel a little clausterphobic. :scared: Anyway, apparently to this one woman it looked a like a good place to push her stroller, cause she came right off of the sidewalk, and started knocking into people. One of whom was my mom. She didn't say excuse me or anything as she went, she just kept bumping people with her stroller until they moved. Mom and I just looked at each other and said "What the heck is her problem?"

I still don't understand what would motivate someone to leave an empty sidewalk and start trying to force their way down Main Street when it is a mob scene. I guess she had her stroller battering ram, so she wanted to use it.

Ive just returned from there 1/30/09 and let me tell you -- the Brazilians were in full force with their travel groups and they were rude .. hoarded all the fast passes by doing like 100 at a time (no joke) .. and were extremely pushy .. i cant stand it

Id also like to mention that I do not think Disney is a place for strollers ... if you need to push a kid you need to re think going ... seriously. I luckily did not need to push one but my ankles fell prey to several on a stroll about with their careless aim.

Normally I take things like this in stride so for me to be upset about those two issues above .. trust me, it was horrible.
