RSR - smoother than Indiana Jones?

Hi all, we are DLR vets headed down in a few weeks to experience Carsland and DLR at Christmas for the very first time! :cool1:

Question for you who have ridden RSR: My husband has some back issues and has found he tolerates some rides better than others. Rides he can handle well and enjoys: Space Mtn, Splash Mountain, California Screamin'. Rides he can't do without some pain: Indiana Jones and BTMR.

So how to does RSR stack up to these rides as far as "jerkiness"? What bothers him about some rides is the quick jerking back and forth. But SM and CS he does just fine on. He is willing to take some risk b/c he loves rides but is trying to decide whether to try RSR. Incidentally, while I'm asking, how does TOT stack up?

I am a thrill ride chicken and therefore can't test these out for him myself. Though i think I will probably try RSR and do just fine. My two oldest kids go on every ride.

Gosh, hopefully you'll get some other opinions from people that have ridden RSR more than I have, but I'll still weigh in.

I have only ridden RSR once, but I would say that I do not remember any "jerky" movements where I had to brace myself like in Indiana Jones.

I found it to be a smoother ride than California Screamin', so if he is good on that ride, he should be fine on RSR.

Indiana Jones is the one that should be called the wildest ride in the wilderness! As far as I know, RSR basically only does things regular cars can do--there are some kind of "bunny hills" but that's about it. I don't remember any jarring stops, but if those don't bother him in a real car, I don't see how it could be a problem.

Tower of Terror is smooth and shouldn't be a problem with his back conditions as far as I know...I think a person at WDW who had back problems sued because they wanted to ride ToT without riding since it helped their back! Not jerky; it just drops you a bunch.

Would definitely avoid the Matterhorn (if you didn't know that). I don't think it's THAAAAAAAT bad myself, but definitely jerkier than BTMRR.

RSR is very smooth, he shouldn't have any problems at all. :)

This is very encouraging news! Thanks, everyone for taking the time
To weigh in!

I agree with the rest - when I went a couple of weeks ago I didn't notice any jerkiness at all on RSR. In my opinion it's similar to California Screamin', slightly smoother than Space Mountain, and WAY smoother than Big Thunder Mountain.

Also agree with Eeee-va about the Matterhorn - hands down the jerkiest ride I took when I was there. Took it once and decided that was enough for the rest of my time there...

My DH is the same way. He was very comfortable on RSR. No issues :)

Now that we did RSR a few more times in October, I am changing the vote I put in on another similar thread back then. For the cruising part of the ride, it's beautiful and gentle and like riding in a car. But inside the building there's a part where you stop fairly suddenly, and that's not really smooth.

My recommendation, if he wants to ride it, is that he sits in a *side* seat, where you have the proper seatbelt with a lap and shoulder portion. The middle seats have only the lap belt. So if he's restrained like in a normal car, it should keep him in place a bit better.

My husband was suffering from herniated disks on our trip last month. He rode RSR twice and said it was fine. Very smooth. You will love it too even if you don't do thrill rides. The one my husband regretted was BTMR and he didn't even want to try Materhorn. It is very bumpy. He didn't do ToT either.

My husband rode Matterhorn in August and with the new cars it was very hard on his back. He won't ride it again.
