We are staying at RPR fron Feb.5-8. after our Disney cruise. We cant wait to stay here! We have stayed at Portofino 2 years ago and wouldnt dream of not staying onsite at Universal. Question- Is there a certain area of the hotel to request? We are Loews gold and have an upgrade to a water view. Also, where is there on hotel property to get quick meals? How's the selection? We have a picky  5 year old daughter.........is there boat transportation or just walkways? My hubby really loved the water taxi service. Actually, that was one of his favorite things about Portofino. Thanks and sorry about all the questions.--Maria

There are walkways and water taxi. I don't know what you mean by quick meal...all the restaurants are sit down. There is a quick breakfast place in the Orchid Lounge (muffins, coffee, etc.).

There is also the shuttle, which I find to be quicker if you are going to US. It picks you up by the convention center.
I like tower three. Convenient to everything. Floor three is lobby level. No fast food choices that I can remember except for Orchids in the morning. They really do need to do something about that. I guess ordering from the pool grill would be your best option, they have typical kid's meals.

There really isn't a quick meal counter service at the RPR. That is one flaw it has. It's either sit down meal, or walk over to Citywalk. I don't think the grill by the pool was open the two different times we went in the winter. Definately wasn't the first time, which was in Feb,, but we went again a year ago early Dec, and I don't think it was open then either.

There is the boat shuttle, but the walk isn't too bad either. I don't think that week would be especially busy, so you should find it a short queue for the boat.

You want to make sure they don't put you on the lowest level,, did that my first trip, and that was at the beginning of Feb two years ago. It feels you are in a basement and our carpet was damp by the window. We had bad luck that trip, cheerleaders were everywhere,, and were running thru the halls late at night, and congregating by the ice machine, which happened to be next to our room,,lol. Have been back two other times tho, and no problems :) Try to get a view of IOA, so you can watch the Hulk and Dr. Doom :) I think that is building 3? Someone else may be able to verify that.

At RPR u are only a 10 min walk from City walk so food wise u are sorted i have found the walk to be quite relaxing and quick the service at Jakes, Islands dining room & the buma dar & grill are good quick as well

I thought the child's menu was good, and it's basically the same food selection if you ordered roomservice for the kids,, but they do add more to the room service food. My younger daughter loves grilled cheese sandwiches,, and was able to get it in either restaurent. Didn't take the kids to Tchop tchoup.

I should mention that I think Islands has a really great breakfast buffet. Even the pickest eater will find something there they will like. :)

EDIT:
Have a great 'surprise' trip Highlander447 :) I am so jealous,,lol.

If you have pool view, you will be in either Tower 1 or 3. If you get Tower 3 and are on an upper floor, you may have a view of IOA as well. We just stayed on the 4th floor of Tower 3 (first room when getting off the elevator). We could see the Dr. Doom towers and Dueling Dragons in the distance.

Thanks eveyone! I will request tower 1 or 3. How cool to see the park!
Cora- I meant fast food type eatery. I know my 5 year old gets antsy at sit down type places when there are rides to be ridden and characters to hug  -She is in love with Shaggy(as in Scooby doo) and must see him at US everyday of our stay.
Anyway, the poolside grill is not open winter months?Oh well, we can always go to the city Walk or even Portofino has the pizza and salad place that was yummy.--Maria

Tower 1 also has views of IOA, it's practically right in front of it.
Tower 2 has the pet rooms and most of the smoking rooms in it.
Each time I have been at RPR we have gotten food from teh pool grill. We had a drink at the bar a couple of weeks ago and people were getting food.
Maybe it goes by the weather? We have also ordered take out while staying there.
