My wife and I stayed there back in 1999. It is a hotel that is owned by Richard Branson. You are right next door to Lady Di's old residence, Kensington Palace. You are about a ten to fifteen minute walk to Harrod's. The rooms themselves are a bit smaller than the US equivalent, but who's in their hotel room that much. If I remember right, breakfast was also included when I used my DVC points.

The London theater district is a cab ride away from this hotel. A London Subway stop is located right across the street.

BTW... I noticed that you are located in the 90039 area of Los Angeles. I grew up in Atwater and my parents still live there (close to the Tam O'Shanter Inn).

Hi Larry - my mother and I stayed there for 10 wonderful nights last March. We paid - it wasn't on points. I would stay there again in a heart beat. The location was wonderful - right next to Kensington Palace on Kensington HIgh Street. . Our room was very nice - two large twin beds, great bathroom, tv. I had heard London rooms are small to American eyes, but we were very pleased. Our room included a full "continental" breakfast each morning - meat, cheese, cereal, etc. Enough that we were able to skip lunch. The staff was very very friendly - very kind to Americans. The head concierge was truly kind and helpful - booked all of our tours and helped us with other issues. The hotel has undergone a major renovation and was truly lovely - not British looking - more of a California look. We ate few meals there and were very pleased.

I was nervous about my first trip overseas, and I must say the staff there - from waitresses to bartenders to business center folks - were truly welcoming and kind.

Feel free to pm me with any other questions you might have.

I forgot to add, I used to live very close to you in Newhall - off of the Old Road. Have family in Santa Clarita.

We spent a week at the Royal Garden in May, 04' They allowed us to check-in early ( our plane arrived at 8:30AM from Atlanta ) and also gave us a free room upgrade. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The exchange includes free breakfast ( excluding certain cooked meats, which are extra charge ) for two.
The hotel overlooks Kensington Garden and Kensington Palace ( off to one side ). Our room had a sitting area next to a bay window which allowed us to look out at both the garden and the palace. Kensington Garden is on one end of Hyde Park. The hotel is convenient to the Tube.

Thanks everyone for their replies. I am feeling better about staying there next year on points.

Hey Valencia Joe! I am right down the street from Atwater Village and dine at the Tam O' Shanter often.

Let me know if you are ever in town.

I work in Downtown and usually visit my parents every other week. I still have a lot of friends that I went to grade school with that live in that immediate area.

We spent our honeymoon at the Royal Garden in 1986. We loved the hotel, and it is in a great neighborhood - it's very easy to get around London from that location. As another poster mentioned, it is next to Kensington Palace and a short walk from beautiful Hyde Park. I'm glad to hear that the staff is still so kind to Americans - this is one of the things we really liked about the hotel. The fact that the Royal Garden is part of DVC helped convince us to buy - we're planning on going back for our 20th anniversary next year!

Have a wonderful time if you decide to stay there!

I forgot to mention how helpful the staff was. My wife and I decided to split our stay in half, and went to Paris for two days. The staff at the Royal Garden held the balance of our luggage in a secure location upon our return from Paris.

We stayed there on points a number of years ago, the rooms are small, that's why we had to get 2 rooms for my wife, myself and our 2 children, there was no dresser in the room, we had to put our clothes out on the large window sill, the view from our room was an an adjoining office of theirs, they also forgot to tell us that we had continental breakfast included in our stay on points, the location was okay, the entrace to the tube (subway) was about 2 blocks away, there are stores for shopping, McDonalds, we used the buses and the tube to get around, we also used taxi's too, we took the Eurostar train when we went to Disneyland paris from downtown London, right to the gates of DLP.

I live near London, but do not know anything about this hotel. I just wanted to tell you that Mary Poppins is a fabulous show. It was stunning. My DH and I saw it in July and loved every second. Be sure to book early- it is a sell out!

what are the 2006 points? I can no longer access dvc site because they want a new password and I never got one - I know I can call -

thanks

Drove past this hotel on Sunday and we thought it looked really nice with the Christmas lights up. We had been ice skating at the Natual History museum, walked to Harrods then Hard Rock Cafe which was too busy and then to Planety Hollywood and finally to Hamleys.

Hope you have a great time.

Susan

We will be staying there April 10-13th, 2006. Will post a report.

Susan - what is Hamley's? Thanks
