We are considering using points to stay at the Royal Garden Hotel in London and would appreciate comments from anyone who has stayed there. Thanks.

DH and I spent our honeymoon at the Royal Garden. It is a beautiful hotel with excellent service. It is also in a nice location - right next to Kensington Palace, just a short walk from Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall. We found it very easy to get around the city from that location. Hope that helps!

Glad to hear those rave reviews. My DW and I will be there using points this August.

See you there Stinson. ;)

A quick up-date.

I was in London on business in November, so I stayed at the Royal Garden for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. Great location, great hotel, great rooms, great everything. So, on January 1, 2007, I will bring the whole family of 6, using DVC points, back to the Royal Garden for an extended vacation.

Great to hear the good reviews! With the way the dollar/pound is going I think 270 points for a week is a pretty good deal.

We spent a week at the Royal Garden in May, 04'. They allowed us to check-in early ( our plane arrived at 8:30AM from Atlanta ) and also gave us a free room upgrade.
The exchange includes free breakfast ( excluding certain cooked meats, which are extra charge ) for two.
The hotel overlooks Kensington Garden and Kensington Palace ( off to one side ). Our room had a sitting area next to a bay window which allowed us to look out at both the garden and the palace. Kensington Garden is on one end of Hyde Park. The hotel is convenient to the Tube.
The concierage will book shows and/or tours. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I was in London on business earlier this month. Although I didn't stay there, it looked like a nice hotel in a great location.

We will be in London in June 2007 before our Disney cruise of the mediterranean. Thinking about using DVC points to stay here for 3 nights. I will need 2 rooms, 2 adults and 2 kids. I need to use my banked points by August 31st. Is the hotel very kid-friendly? Is it pretty easy to get connecting rooms? Thanks for you help.

Believe it or not, we used to live in London and lived about 200 yards from this hotel. It IS in a nice location but you'll need to use taxis or the underground to get to areas like Piccadilly Circus and the theater and shopping districts (Bond Street, Regent Street and Oxford Street). As long as you don't mind using the underground, it should be fine.
PM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks John. I have no worries using the tube. My kids will get a kick out of riding the trains.

Hey Carol,
I think using the points there would be a great idea. Especially for the cost of hotel rooms in London. My DW and I stayed there this past August and like other posters have said it is a great hotel. Very nice and upscale and the service is wonderful. As far as kid-friendly, I would say it is not kid-UNfriendly. It is a upscale hotel that caters towards the wealthy and business people (at least that is the impression I got from my stay). However, at the same time, while we were checking in and during our stay, we did see many families and kids around in the hotel.

But the rooms are well adorned with some nice amenities. I checked out the cost of the room if we paid cash and it would have been roughly $700/night with the exchange rate at that time. And the room we had was the second to cheapest room. Also, as we were walking into the hotel there was a Lamborghini, Bentley, Mercedes, and Ferrari parked out front. So, that will give you an idea what type of place it is. But again, the service was wonderful and the location we thought was great (we were visiting my wife's old stomping ground in Kensington). And getting busses or on the tube was no problem at all.

But knowing what type of hotel you would get if you paid about $150/night in London, I would HIGHLY recommend using your points at the Royal Garden. You won't be dissappointed. I know that is what we will be doing next time we go to London.

Best of luck.

Oh yeah, as far as connecting rooms, I'm not sure if they have them. I know our room did not have a connecting door to another room, but that was the only room I saw out of something like 450 rooms (if not more). So, take that with a grain of salt.
