Others had asked about this resort a while back and I thought I would post a review of this property since it is an exchange option through II with DVC.

We spent Sat. Feb 3rd through the 10th or week 5 for you exchangers.

Our room wasn't ready at check in but they said go on up anyway and drop your stuff, change, whatever you need. I was thrilled! ALL resorts should do this. This DVC thing of not even telling you your room number is crazy IMO. We simply went in and the maid was cleaning. We put our stuff out of her way and changed. When we returned the room was done. Really great start!

Our room was a 3rd floor oceanfront in building H (326). It was a 2 bedroom 2 bath. It had the central area with kitchen and dining table for 6, bedrooms were on opposite sides like DVC 2 bedroom. Room is nothing fancy but SPOTLESS. Part of the reason for that is beacasue the rooms get daily maid service. Well actually 6 days of full cleanings they are off Sundays. DVC housekeeping should take a lesson from these ladies, they clean EVERYTHING and windows!!! Just great to have a clean room everyday. Our balcony was huge with table seating for 4 and 2 chairs with ottomans to lay out. The view was just incredible!!!! Needless to say a few Margaritas were enjoyed out there.

The pool is huge at this resort and really is made up of 5 areas. One has a swim up bar, 1 a kids pool, 1 has a voleyball net and the other 2 are quiet. Really beautiful! Pools were kept spotless like the rest of the property. They wiped down the tile daily. Water is heated and was perfect at about 84 -85 degrees. Heated pool is unusual for Mexico and it was greatly appreciated.

Dining- They have a sit down restaurant in the center area of the pool. It has poolside tables as well for Alfresco dining. Food was simply great! Again heads and above what we get at DVC Resorts. I would kill for my grouper sandwich at DVC or that yummy Rueben or those nachos!!! Dinner there was great as well with great steak, fish and pasta. They had themed nights there as well and a great breakfast bufffet daily. Inside the lobby they have a sports bar and a grocery store. I say grocery because they have everything. Little need to even go to Walmart because the prices were good and they have a full supply of stuff. DVC should take a look at what they have here, heads and above any DVC store. Oh and the real kicker with the dining is that they have a TO Go section of the poolside restaurant. You call down and order dinner for 4 and pick it up. They had things like roasted chicken, lasagna, meatloaf, ribs, fried chicken, etc. It came with all of the fixings for $28 for 4 people. They were also willling to do anything To Go off of the main menu. Also poolside and on the beach they served drinks and food. You never had to get up and they kept the drinks flowing. Food brought right to you as well. Happy Hour daily from 3 - 6 p.m. with half priced drinks was a nice touch also. Dining gets a 10 from me.

Service: It was just great! Everyone was quick and willing to help. This place crushes WDW resorts from a service standpoint. Poolside service, daily maid service, complimentary noodles, snorkel gear, etc. Everything with a smile. Things really hit home with us on this trip. DVC has to many NO's being handed out to guests lately. No To Go orders, no drinks by the pool, no splashing, no this or that. This place, everything was a yes or right away. I don't want to hear NO on vacation. I'm hearing it WAY to much at WDW for my taste. Service is a 10 especially for a Timeshare property.

To sum up, trade anytime you can here. The resort sits between the Royal Mayan and Royal Islander. You can charge at and use all three places. Royal Resorts are really everything DVC should be. Service is paramount to there operation. To really show how committed they are, they close down completely all of their resorts for one week a year for maintenance. Nobody else does this. They sacrificed a lot of sale money to keep the properties mainatined. The Resort is 20 years old and looks awesome. People were constantly cleaning evryday. They never evn closed after the Hurricane, none of their properties. They are well built and they have stood the test of 2 hurricanes.

Royal Resorts is a winner! More to come with some fun stuff and more about the program at Royal Resorts.

So glad you had a great trip...

Was the name of the hotel....royal carribean...
also where in mexico is this...cancun?....

thanks for the review!!! send some pics when you can! I love hearing about people's exchanges!!! Nice to know our options!!!!!

The 4 Royals are among those I list as USUALLY a great trade. The only reason I qualify the statement is that certain times of the year you can get into those resorts with anything through II.

LOL, dumbo71 - I thought the Royal Carribbean was a ship! Didn't know it was also the name of a resort. Where is it, please?

Thanks for the review.

Not Dumbo71 but these 4 resorts (Royal Caribbean, Mayan, Islander and Sands) are all beach side in Cancun. The first 3 are right together and further South. The Sands in the newest and largest and is somewhat closer to much of the action in Cancun. All are GREAT resorts.

Sounds wonderful from your review but you couldn;t pay me to go back to Cancun. It is the one place in the world that I had a truly rotten experience. The hotel was right next door to the Royal and it was very nice. The beach was okay at best. High surf made it difficult to go in the water and they had alot of signs posted that youswim at your own peril. I went in 1997 and we had trouble being left alone for two minutes without time share salespeople hitting you up for a FREE Breakfast. Laying on the beach they stood over you and wouldn't take no for an answer. We walked on the street and a van would pass and people would see you , stop and get out and the sales pitch would start again. WE found it was easier to speak the little German I know so they couldn't talk to us. When we got home we were exhausted and angry. There are way to many beautiful spots in the world for us to stay. I would never return there even if it was an all paid for vacation, that's how awful a taste that place left in my mouth. I hope it isn't the same now. Glad you found such a wonderful experience, it is obviously different than my experience. joan

My DD went with a family to that resort and she said the same things. We have a lot of pic's but the sight is down.

Joan,

I have to say we were very hesitant about going to Cancun. We usually stay further south in Playa Del Carmen. We figured we would give Cancun a shot and we loved it. We were NEVER bothered by anyone there and we enjoyed everything about it. Yes the surf is rough but still fun. Actually two of the days it was as calm as can be. Now I wouldn't go near Cancun in March or April (Spring break) but we found it great this time of year.

Beaches were wonderful.

Dean is of course correct. Royal also has a new property further south in Playa Del Carmen. It is called the Royal Hacienda and it is just spectacular. Beach is as calm as glass with white sand. Snorkeling from the beach and it is in a gated resort area. The only things that will be in there is the Royal Timeshare, Golf course, condos, homes and shopping center. Shuttles will take you to Playa Del Carmen which is a quaint Mexican town. Ferry leaves from there to Cozumel if that interests you.

Loved Royal Hacienda so much we bought a week there. We decided to do that instead of a AKV add on. Hacienda was much more but the service is above and beyond. You are getting Deluxe Resort service and features but staying in Timeshare rooms. Like a hotel, really. I might pick up a cheap resale week at one of the other Royal Resorts. Royal Caribbean has 10 years left. You could get a resale wek there for 15,000 for 10 years and then after 10 years be eleigible for the buy out. From what I'm being told that buy out will be $30,000 + per week of ownership maybe more. So you could use for 10 years and double your money. Not bad!

What sets Royal apart is that at the end of the term you get your buy in money back possibly more. At the end of the term the resort goes up for sale. It gets sold to the highest bidder. That money gets divided up amongst the owners. One of the Royal Resorts just sold and the owners got the buy in money back plus 40%.

Anyone want more info. on the program pm me.

More coming soon. check out royalresorts.com for some photos. We took more video this time.

Just a note about the daily maid service. We stayed at the Royal Sands (a sister resort) a few years ago. The maids make about $5.00 (US) per DAY.:sad2: They rely completely on tips. My sister-in-law did not believe me when I told her that and suggested she leave a tip, so one day we asked the maid and she confirmed this. Needless to say, my SIL did not complain about tipping after that!

There is no way DVC could (should) ever pay their cleaning staff so little. IMHO I would not like an increase in fees for daily maid service.

Thanks for posting this. The OP dwelled so much on how much better these resorts were then DVC, but failed to point out that these resorts are able to take advantage of an almost free labor supply. He also forgot to mention that the commute to Epcot,MK, MGM and AK is a bit much - one of main reasons people buy into DVC.

Otherwise, thank you for posting about the trade option.

This is certainly fair. Mexico has cheap labor no way around it. Guess what, from the guest standpoint who cares. I tip appropriately and enjoy the superior product that they provide because of that cheap labor. Besides the cheap labor, Mexico provides service with a smile and genuine, hard working people.

We could all take a lesson from those wonderful appreciative people.

This is something my husband would do although he knows quite a bit of German (lived there for a few years) and I can only say "ich habe feber". He hates being hassled by timeshare sales people while on vacation. It's one of the reasons that we bought into DVC rather than another timeshare.

I'm sorry, she did stay at Royal Sands, but it was great.

I did this because they are superior in every way other than rooms. DVC has a leg up with nicer rooms and washer/dryer in unit. Food, service, amnenities, complementary offerings all go to Royal Resorts. Low dues also.
