Royal Caribbean announces they're sailing to Alaska this July!

The real question is the vaccine requirement. They will not have time to start in July if they want to go the test cruise route

Don't quote me, but I believe it was posted in another thread that it would be required for these sailings. They received an email with the information, Sailings before August 1, 2021-all guests 16+ must be vaccinated. After August 1, 2021, all guests 12+ must be vaccinated. Kids under those ages must show proof of a negative test.

I don't know if there's an expiration date.

I just found this.

So won’t they still need to do test cruises since the under-16/under-12 won’t be vaccinated? Or is RCCL interpreting the CDC rules as 95% of eligible (by age) passengers be vaccinated?

Or they are restricting volume of kids.
I suppose they could. I’m not familiar with the ships but based on a quick Google search that would mean less than 125 kids on Serenade of the Seas. Maybe they don’t expect these ships/itineraries to be attractive to families anyway.

They do market Ovation pretty heavy as family friendly, but it may also just be that they are saying "we will sail with who we can."

You're lucky to get 100 kids on a port intensive Serenade cruise 🤣

We're booked for Aug!!
Can't wait. Love cruising to Alaska. This will be our 6th.
Seattle used to be our home port, so great to go from and back there again

I will say this is a terrible change by the US government unless they had other requirements on the cruiseship to obey and follow more labor laws pertaining to the US.
I am not sure I understand why this is such a bad decision or why they couldn’t have an allowance for cruise lines. This regulation doesn’t make sense to me if it can be circumvented by starting in, ending in, or visiting a single foreign port.

I was seeing in the info I was reading that this also applies to ferrying passengers to oil rigs, so happy to be educated if I am missing something else

What Seth is saying is that he hoped foreign-flagged ships that conduct business in US ports could also be made to follow US labor laws regarding minimum wage, overtime, disability, etc.
If that were to happen, they’d also withhold state and federal taxes from their paychecks.

Correct me if I’m wrong please.
