I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking of that sequence.
He was a wonderful actor and I've enjoyed a great deal of his work. When I saw him on L&O Criminal Intent I thought he looked very thin-even for him. I'm guessing he was ill even then.
We have a house in Sag Harbor and always saw him at all of the local restaurants. Always so, so nice and so gracious, a real class act. He will be missed.
I love the movie, "All That Jazz." When it first came out, my older sister said she loved it and I had to see it...way back then (1979?) I thought it was too weird. But over time it has become one of my favorite movies.
My mother also had Multiple Myeloma and passed away in September 2006 at UAMS in Little Rock just like Roy Scheider. My mom and dad saw him there at the Myeloma institute a few times. Very sad indeed. Multiple Myeloma is a horrible disease! My mom was diagnosed when she was 54 and fought hard with the help of the wonderful doctors at UAMS until she was 57.
I will keep his family in my prayers.
I'm so sorry about your mother. I sort of wondered why he was in Little Rock when he died until I saw that part about multiple myeloma.
The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) center is really known for their work in that area thanks to huge funding from the Waltons (Walmart). A friend of mine was all set to go to Houston (M.D. Anderson) for her treatment in the early 90s when they told her that virtually the entire department was moving to UAMS. She is fortunately doing great.
