Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Excellent recap!

I remember training for my first 5k race woondering how I would get through it. Then I remember thinking the same thing for my first half, but by then a 5k was soooo easy. Then my first full seemed so daunting, but by that stage a half was a piece of cake and when at full training volume, not far enough for a long training run!

Keep up the training, don't skimp on the long runs (my critical error for first half and full), and you'll be amazed with what you can achieve!

Great job!

Now I think those numbers are telling you something...

48.6...

Right @FFigawi?

Oh no!!!!

Thanks. You are totally right that the shorter distances seem so much better now! Noted about the long runs!!!

Think of it like this: you EARNED that corral placement just as much as an Ironman athlete and Boston marathoner. While their accomplishments may seem daunting, you deserved to be starting right next to them and even passing them. Don't doubt yourself.

That's awesome to hear!

:woohoo:

Sounds like a race effort to me!

Well that's a great way to look at it! :thumbsup2

::yes::

::yes::

You should be very proud! You crushed that sub 50 goal!

Well a clock is right two times a day, so I guess I'm done for the year... :P

BTW, can't wait for our 10k in October. I've got a feeling you're going to like the results! :D Not that I've got a plan or anything... :D:D

Definitely easier said then done. It's easy to come up with predictions/projections, but can we really hit those paces???

Ok so I'm guessing the super secret 10k goal is not 59:59? Hmmmm?
59:58!!! :D

Right!! It's clearly a sign!

So I found a new race for you!!!
It's basically the Iditarod but with no dogs and you're pulling the sled and it's 1000 miles. Doesn't that sound fun!! Now I just gotta find a dogsled emoji for you this year!

Race Recap!! Yay!

Your outfit was on-point. Excellent matching skills and very theme appropriate!

You really rocked this race! In fact, you had such an awesome race that I can't even scold you for not going to the hockey game.
(I didn't want to admit this on Sunday, but I'm admitting it now ... I was following along on the runner tracking website from Costco. Because walking around a crowded Costco staring at my phone was definitely not a terrible idea. But I was so excited when I saw that you were almost done at 45 minutes - and seeing your finish time made me so happy!!)

It's been amazing to follow along with your journey and see you constantly improve. I think you've got a great attitude going further into your half training ... and definitely trust the numbers, Coach @DopeyBadger knows what he's doing!

AWESOME JOB ON YOUR RACE!

Thank you so much!

Awww, that means a lot that you tracked me! Glad I could add some excitement into your Costco trek (other than the excitement of giant foods at great values, haha)

So how do we all feel about posting watermarked marathonfotos on this here journal? Great? Great!
(Seriously, is this an ok thing to do per you all runner-veteran people with opinions?)

I'm seriously considering purchasing this one because it may be proof that I'm finally acclimated enough to running that I don't always gets 100% beet-red after a race. Although I 100% have no idea what I'm doing with my hand. I think I was grabbing for my medal and got caught mid-grab and so now it appears that I'm throwing down a cool "peace-out" sign???? Or maybe I did do this without thinking? Maybe post-race I turn into just a super-chill "dude"? I literally have no idea. Calling @Ariel484 to the "what should I do with my hands during pictures?" phone.

Finisher! (I clearly forgot to put down all my stuff first)

This may be the real winner though...

I'm clearly going from arms up in triumph to grabbing for my stop button on my watch but it certainly makes me look like I'm doing an off-brand "dab" or some kind of "thriller" dance. At least y'all can see how happy I was.

The FAM!

I received a text from hubby saying "Look, I beat Ray Leota!" And that's why I love him.

(no idea why sideways.)

SEE?? It's a problem! Someone needs to teach a course on this. Or they need to have one of the runDisney speakers cover this at the expos. ::yes::

My thoughts on the watermarked pics - it's not like any of us are profiting off of these threads on the DIS, so I think it's okay. I give the side-eye to people who have for-profit blogs and post watermarked pics. :confused3

This was a pure gold post. Well done!

Yeah, that's a valid point! I feel better :)
(especially since I do end up buying these pics now and then for the ol' mantle at home.)

I've got no issue whatsoever on a personal thread like this posting watermarked photos. I'm glad you shared. And you commentary on them was hilarious!! But your DH had the best line. :rotfl2:

Update: It's 1 month, 1 week, and 1 day until my half marathon. I don't know why but I like the symmetry of that.
It's also the first day since my race that I'll be pushing that pace again...cause its TEMPO NIGHT!
Wondering if it won't seem as fast to go tempo so soon after going race pace? Or you know, if the dreadmill will just be the dreadmill like always. I guess we will find out.

This weekend I will be test driving my new skirt/shorts and I can't decide if I should test-drive it on Sat for my short easy run or on Sunday for my 8 mile LR pace? It's gonna be great weather 63 Sat & 70 Sun!!!! So I'm optimistic about it.
I guess I can take it out on Saturday and if it survives 4 miles; I can wash and wear again for a longer one.
Everyone cross your fingers they wear well so I can cross off "half outfit" off my list of "to-do's"

Things I still need to-do pre-trip.
Buy park tickets.
Buy sunglasses.
Test fuel. Buy more fuel.
Buy new sunscreen.
Pack too many clothes.
Run a ton.
What am I forgetting?

I always always always test new clothing on a shorter run. That way, if something isn't comfortable, I'm not dying for too long. I think trying it on a 4 mile run is good, and then if it works (which hopefully it will!), test it out on your next long run.
