Opening the park 2 hrs before the published time

The line would be here either way. If they open early, they start clearing that line out sooner and more people total will get to ride today than if they waited until the official start time.

Pandora, Toy Story Land, Hagrid's ride, GE/Smuggler's Run - all the recent big openings have had lines this early - people should realize they won't be able to stroll up right at the official opening time and be at the front of the line. That's just not how it goes. Even for non-park events - new iPhones and gaming systems, etc. get lines several blocks long when they release.

Anyway, still haven't moved yet as of 6:15. Weather-wise, it's a tad chilly, but not too cold (AccuWeather says 50 degrees), thankfully. I'm in a light sweatershirt and jeans and doing fine.

If they didn't, they'd have lines extending into the parking lot probably. Disney is right to open any park early for crowd control, and it's done every day for FoP. I don't buy the whole "average guest" not being able to figure out that he/she needs to be early for the opening of a brand new, highly anticipated attraction. If the guest shows up even an hour before published opening, they'll most likely be able to join an evening boarding group.

I also don't feel upset that I only rode it once opening day, while others were able to do it twice. I came in hoping for one ride through, and that's what I got. It was a great day.

AARGH.... now I am worried about my strategy of taking the 6:30 am bus from my resort on Monday! I don't like to Uber/Lyft - and I won't have a car!

I was beyond thrilled with the early opening on Thursday. I arrived at 5:00 fully prepared to sit on the cold concrete for three hours but spent my time riding the headliners with no lines instead.
Exactly. I just wish they’d be consistent. With the BG you don’t even NEED to wait for it to open. If you knew when it actually opened just plan to get there shortly after. That’s what I did yesterday and got BG 28. I decided to go earlier today to try and possibly get on early enough for a 2nd BG. Of the 3 days this has so far been the most miserable because they HAVENT let us in. Should have just slept in.

Grand opening day for SW:GE opened 3 hours early and they still had lines to the parking lot

Nevermind, I thought you were talking about RotR, not land opening.

Eta: exactly what they cant have happening on a daily basis, though. I'm confused as to whether you're supporting my argument or disagreeing.

I was there, but close to the tapstyles, so couldn't see how far the line extended.
let me tell you a story (but I'll make it short)

I was staying onsite that morning and woke up at 2am. I got to DHS before the parking lot was open and that caused a major holdup of people trying to get in vs people who camped out by boardwalk. So I was inside the security gates but not near the tapstiles.

On the bus from riverside now. Kids we’re tired after a late travel day and we couldn’t make it any earlier. I’m assuming we’ll likely get a boarding group still and hopefully a few rides before the lines get long.

If not, we’ll be back in a month and will get on it then

Do you guys think I would get a boarding group still if I arrived a few minutes after park opening or is it too risky
