I read in the latest Disney Magazine that there is a horse at Animal Kingdom called Rosie and she trades pins with the kids.. Does anyone know what days/times Rosie is available? I have already tried calling the Disney Club number and they didn't know..

Thanks for any help!

We'll be at Disney for Thanksgiving week.. Can't wait!!!

Lauri, Matt, Jeff and Trini went to see Rosie during the event and I am sure Jeff can tell stories about the meeting. He told me all about it when we had our little gathering in front of American Adventure in September.
Come on Jeff, let us all know what you did to Rosie. Peggie

There are actually several pin trading ponies at the Animal Kingdom. I had no idea they even existed until I met a Cast Member at the Island Merchantile. She had a really cool Mickey cowboy pin that I traded for. As she handed me the pin she proclaimed, "This is a special pin, I got it from Rosie." I kind of looked at her funny thinking, "well that's an odd thing to say." So I responded the only way I could think of. "Here is a pin for you, it came from China." I don't think that impressed her much. Anyway, I just had to ask who Rosie was and why her pin was so special. That led to the Cast Member telling Trina and me about the herd of pin trading ponies. I can only imagine cowboys out west on their horses looking for wild stallions (not the Bill and Ted Excellent band) and coming across a herd of ponies standing around the water hole with their pin books out trying to make a deal on a Limited Edition pin from Japan. Only to have to scramble to pick up all their pin trading gear and running for their lives while insane dudes with ropes chase them around. It is my guess that these four ponies froze trying to decide whether those were ropes the cow pokes had or just really stiff lanyards.

Well I had so many questions that I think I started bugging the Cast Member so in final desperation, she said I should just go down to Camp Minnie and Mickey and see for my self. Trina and I wandered down not really knowing what to expect. When we got there, there was this pony standing there with a lanyard around its neck. The lanyard had 12 pins on it plus a special pin hanging on the lanyard tag. That day, Rosie had just gotten over some surgery (might have been a double post accident but I thought that was kind of personal and I didn't want to pry) and was not feeling well. In her place was Tank the Pin Trading Pony. Trina and I talked to Tank's handler. It seems there are four horses (I cannot remember the other two horses names. It might have been Lenny and Squiggy but I am not sure) and they take turns trading wth the guests. Children and adults are both allowed to trade with the pony. Tank has a rule that to trade for the pin on his lanyard card, you must trade a horse related pin. All others trade just like a Cast Member trade. They do ask that the pin have a rubber back so that it doesn't pull the horse's hair. (I know where they are coming from. I traded with a guest from Austria and he whined and cried when he tried to remove a pin from his lanyard that had gotten tangled in his tank top sweater. I did think it was odd that the sweater was long-haired on the arms, neck, and back area but quite short and a different color on the shirt part. And who wears a furry sweater like that in September anyway?) Tank was a compact convertible with a 1 horsepower engine. I am not sure on the size of the other models in their fleet. I asked if Tank would give me a ride but they said no. They did say I could drop by about any day and one of them would be out. We were there in the morning and around noon on a weekday and a week-end and they were out both times. They ponies trade for around an hour before going back in for a little while. Well, you can't actually trade for a pony, just a pin. Not sure what their exact schedule is. Rosie is really into pin trading. She will come up and nuzzle your lanyard to show you what pin she wants to trade for. I am not sure but I think she tried to shark me for nice pin in exchange for a dwarf head. I felt her back but didn't feel a fin. Maybe it is like that old guy I see all the time at the bus stop who is combing over his bald spot. Anyway, I would highly recommend hanging out with the horses, it is a most excellent adventure.

Thanks Jeff! Sounds very neat! :)
I thought maybe this went along with a new parade theme: "Main Street Two Guys With Plastic Flashlights Parade."
:jester:
You know -- Rosie follows along behind as the character. She's her own caravan. :jester: ;)
