Rosie O'Donnell is leaving "The View." ABC has been unable to come to a contractual agreement with "The View" co-host. As a result, her duties on the show will come to an end mid-June
"My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me," O'Donnell said in a statement Wednesday.

"This has been an amazing experience," she said, "and one I wouldn't have traded for the world."

O'Donnell has helped raise the ratings for the daytime chat show invented by Barbara Walters. But her outspokenness has caused almost constant controversy, including a nasty name-calling feud with Donald Trump that placed Walters squarely in the middle.

"I induced Rosie to come back to television on `The View' even for just one year," Walters said. "She has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I can only be grateful to her for this year."

Walters was frequently left to clean up the damage after O'Donnell. She did it most recently Monday, when O'Donnell was criticized for using bad language and attacking Rupert Murdoch from the dais of the annual New York Women in Communication awards luncheon.

I know, I saw!

And I'm actually sad about it; as you all know I think she's a loon, but she's a lesbian loon :thumbsup2 and I adore the conversation and controversy she incites.

I'm going to miss Rosie. She's a very strong woman. I might not agree with all her opinions, but I appreciate that she is not afraid to speak up.

Bye Rosie, I'll miss you!

I would love her to do a new talk show (maybe on cable where she could be able to really speak her mind).:happytv:

This JUST IN ..... I heard ABC transfered her to another division , some theme park.......... doing backstage tours <G> !

I too hope she gets her own tv show again. Maybe the View wet her appetite enough for her to stay on a show.:happytv:

WHAT !???!?!?!?!

This story MUST be wrong because the National Examiner said NOTHING about this.

There's just NO WAY the National Examiner could be WRONG! ;)

here here!!!! i always tivo'ed the view and watched the hot topics segment after work. she did bring to light some very sensitive subjects and i sure will miss her...

ABC offered her a 3-year contract, but she only wanted a 1-year. She has commitment issues me thinks... :rotfl2:

Well, just to get the rumor going, I heard she wanted to stay with Barbara gone :hippie:

Oh, snap! Vicous....

A friend had recently attended a live taping and reported at how frightfully tense things were during the commercial breaks...

I can see that, 2 alpha females. The thing is, Barbara isn't on all that much that I've seen recently, but since Rosie joined the ratings have gone way up. I really could see ABC dropping Babs for Rosie, but only if they had a long-term contract. So both rumors could very well be true :)

As a lurker who will probably get flamed, I respectfully disagree about Rosie's departing The View. I was so proud and happy for her when she had her show and when she acknowledged being a lesbian, especially the circumstances surrounding it...but she seems to me to have developed an "edge" that I find uncomfortable. I don't necessarily disagree with her opinions, but perhaps it's the way she expresses them. I just didn't feel she ever quite fit with the other personalities on The View. Thanks for allowing me to express my opinion!

Me three!
Sometimes I think she's a bit out there - but I think she's brave.

No flames here, friend. I think she's pulled a Lenny Bruce, which - hey - no problem, but the thing is when a comedian goes Lenny they're just not funny.

The thing is if she weren't so obviously reacting out of her anger, she could THINK about ways to get the same exact points across - even the really bizarre ones - in a creative, funny way.

But apparently no one can talk her away from the edge.

Her tenure on The View had a very reckless, my days are numbered vibe to me. I felt like she was offered this gig, and set out to make the most of it to bring certain items to light (adoption issues, depression, issues with current government, Broadway, etc...), full knowing that her days would be counted on this particular venue.

Very intriguing considering her previous show was so very apolitical or controversial. Perhaps she is making up for those years...

Ooooooh, that's the best summation of all the data I've heard yet. Very good! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Wasn't she known as the Queen of Nice when she had her show? I like Rosie - I have her autograph from way back on her show. But I must admit...while I may disagree/agree depending on the topic, her brashness doesn't seem like a positive lesbian image to me. And, YES, that's what everyone thinks of when they think Rosie. Not the argumentative woman. The loud LESBIAN.
