Hi, John and Kevin - I would love to hear your opinion of the Rose & Crown pub food. Have you had the English Bulldog sandwich? Which do you prefer, the English chips or the handmade potato crisps? Will you eat a Scotch egg? It's a limited menu, so you could probably try everything in one meal.

We haven't reviewed the Rose and Crown in quite a while, but we'll get to it again some day.

I can tell you that I always prefer chips to crisps. A shot of malt vinegar, ketchup and salt and I'm good too go.

I have eaten a Scotch egg previously. I like eggs and I like sausage, but I didn't care for the Scotch egg itself. Maybe it's conditioning, but I thought the whole thing would have been better warm and the one I had was stone cold.

I had high hopes and it wasn't what I hoped.

R&C used to have a lamb stew that we really liked.

Again.....someday, but probably not any time soon.

Thanks for the quick response!

I didn't see lamb stew on the pub menu. I'll have to look for that. Or is that in the dining room? I haven't eaten a Scotch egg, but I don't think I could. I'm not a big fan of egg yolks. I shared the English Bulldog sandwich with my parents and we really enjoyed it. I agree with you on the chips vs. crisps sandwich, unless the item I'm eating them with is soft. I like to have both crisp and soft in a meal.

Scotch eggs are always served cold over here in the UK :goodvibes They are usually found on a cold buffet next to some sandwiches at parties!

I haven't tried the scottish egg, but DH and I shared an English Bulldog last trip. DH liked them so much he has requested that I make them at home. :thumbsup2

I don't think they do the lamb stew anymore. The menu for the restaurant has changed recently for both lunch and dinner. And the English Bulldog sandwich is one of my guilty pleasures. I had one in December, and I always feel that I need to keep a cardiologist on call when I order one. ;)

the salmon on the dinner menu is very good.

not as good as the salmon at yak & yeti, but right up there. :goodvibes
