HI,

Please help me decide!! Me and my boyfrend (both 27). We are willing to try something different, but delicious. What is your favorite of the two?

If you want something different try Marrakesh - you can get pub grub everywhere, any time. How often can you have Moroccan food?

You can't go wrong either way, IMO. But Rose and Crown is one of our favorites. The service is excellent, as is the food. Dinner, I think, is a step above the normal pub grub (unless you order fish and chips...which are excellent, BTW). Great beers on taps, lovely atmosphere, especially if you eat outside.

We ate at both. R&C was okay but Marrakesh won hands down. Food, atmosphere, and service were excellent! :goodvibes

Our last visit to R&C last fall was absolutely HORRIBLE. It will be a long, long time before I go there again. Marrakesh, on the other hand, was a huge hit with dh and the 3 normally picky kids (12, 4, and 3 at the time) in May.

It depends on what you're looking for. R&C is a nice, sit-down type restaurant. Marrakesh is a cafeteria style, where you go through a line and pick out what you want and its served on paper/plastic type plates, and, at least in our case, by a sullen waiter who all but threw it at us. That's after getting our order wrong. It was some sort of dessert and they didn't understand my son. When I took it back they actually said "Well, its hardly our fault if your son can't speak clearly". I informed them that my son speaks English, and if there weren't familiar with that language it wasn't our obligation to learn their language--take a look at where you are!

I found the food tasteless, dried out, and the atmosphere not to our liking. But it seems like I'm always going against the tide--I'm usually the lone person who doesn't like whatever, then I get slammed for my opinion. Well, just wanted to let you know the style of restaurant (cafeteria, plastic plates), so you can make your own decision. Have a great trip! :cool1:

That's not Marrakesh....

Marrakesh is hidden in the back of Morocco, and it's a gorgous large room with two tiers of tables around a dance floor for the belly dancer and band.

The restaurant is rarely crowded so the service is excellent. It is full table service, served on china with glass glasses and some truly excellent bread in a basket.

The food is delicious - I highly reccommend the beef brewat rolls and chicken bastilla.

The above poster should double check his facts. Possibly he ate at the Tangierine Cafe, but it certainly wasn't Marrakesh. Not trying to slam, just make sure the OP isn't scared off by an incorrect review.

Blueangel, you just sold me. We're definitely stopping there for dinner next year.

Counter Service at Morocco with paper and plastic is indeed the Tangerine Cafe. Marrakesh is their full service restaurant in back.

We tried Marrakesh once several years ago. The atmosphere was great but the food didn't appeal to us. We never went back. We eat at Rose & Crown just about every trip -- and always seem to get the same great server, Sara from Edinburgh, Scotland.

Hi! To each his/her own, but my boyfriend and I LOVED the Tangierine Cafe! I keep looking for a recipe to duplicate that delicious, tender shwarma chicken that I had but I can't seem to get it right! We were on the dining plan so we HAD to have the baklava for dessert - no complaints here! It was totally sweet! And the service was excellent!

I've never been to the Rose & Crown, but my DH & I LOVE Marrakesh! The food and service are great, and the belly dancing is a nice bonus. If you've never had Moroccan food, try this place - it's awesome!

We did both last trip. I would rate them about equal in theme and quality of food. Which do you like better Moroccan food or English Pub food? We enjoyed both but will return to the R&C. DH likes the beer, I like the sticky toffee pudding and DD likes the pizza :confused3 and the fruit and custard. We didn't do as well at Marrakesh. DH is vegaterian and the veggie dish wasn't that great (for him), and there was no cheese in the children's meals for DD. On the other hand I was happy!

I wanted to add that I voted for Marrakesh for you. It was a neat restaurant and I though you should give it a try. You wouldn't the food issues we had.

Because you asked about trying something different I would suggest Marrakesh.
Good food and certainly different from pub food.
However the Rose & Crown is one of our favorites and we never miss an opportunity for Ramsdens famous fish & chips.
