Rose & Crown - are they kidding?

I keep seeing all these "picky eater" comments. Why not use this to TRY SOMETHING NEW??? Honestly...my parents were all about exposing my sister and me to as many varied foods and dining experiences as they could. We were never allowed to be picky. Whatever happened to TRY something? Especially when you're on the dining plan, so it's not like you're wasting money as if you were getting an actual check. Be adventerous and encourage your children to.

I think it's this whole self-indulgent "Oh, s/he's picky so we won't eat anywhere there's not X, Y or Z" is WHY so many foreign restaurants are becoming "Americanized". They have to or else they wouldn't survive because or "picky eaters".

Sorry for the rant, but come on.

I'm a mom and I agree with you. DD's been going to restaurants since she was tiny and she can either find something she likes on the menu or go without. I'm not going to limit our dining choices so a child can eat one special food every morning, noon, and night of our vacation. (Not saying this is anyone on this thread but I've seen it repeated enough times on these boards to see it as a trend.)

I see so many picky adults nowadays that it really amazes me how limited the diets of some people are.

To the OP:
We love the Rose & Crown. DH is British and likes this little taste of home. Last time we were there, I was the only American in our area of the restaurant. ;)

If your kids don't like what is on the kid's menu, how about letting them split an item from the adult menu?

If you want authentic British Food then the Rose and Crown is not the place I would recommend. The mashed potato is a completely different texture and taste to real English mash.

And re kids menus - English kids menus would include such things as fish fingers and chips (fries), chicken nuggets (NOT chicken fingers -they are different) and chips, beans on toast (baked beans in the UK are not the same as the US).

You would never see macaroni cheese on a kids menu in the UK. Sandwiches are also rarely seen - and our sandwiches have butter on the bread!

I don't understand why a place which declares itself as representing the UK doesn't offer food that is served in the UK style - everything we tried there (with the exception of Harry Ramsden's fish and chips served from the kiosk) was Americanised.

We went there for the first time in 1992 when our kids were 10 and 8 and hoped to find something 'from home' as we fancied a change from American food. We were really disappointed to see how they prepared the food there - subsequent visits haven't changed that view. I would stop going but DH likes to have his pint of proper British beer when we are in Epcot. :rolleyes1

If you want authentic british food you should have a chicken tikka dish, or a pizza.:lmao: I love proper British food, bangers and mash, Yorkshire pud, fish and chips, shepherds pie etc. Finding food like this is getting hard to find in BRITAIN never mind Epcot. Every resturant around here seems to be pasta, currys, french or upmarket fancy food. We have burger bars on every corner, in Leeds City centre itself we have 3 McDonalds, 2 Burger Kings. There is also at least three Subways (probably more, they seem to be popping up on every corner). There are several fried chicken places and hundreds of curry houses. To my knowledge now there are only two fish 'n' chips shops there. So go figure!

If the British don't celebrate our foods, how can we expect Epcot to? If I go into any public house around here I will find the menu covers all sorts of pasta (italian), currys (indian/Chinese), Burgers (US), Baguette Sandwhiches (French)! You are very lucky, there are a few, if you find anywhere serving Shepherds Pie, In fact my fav dish is a nice steak and I have difficulty in finding one, that doesn't come as part of some complicated fancy dish. It was reported in the papers sometime last year that our favourite National Dish was now Chicken Tikka Masala.

I honestly didn't notice any difference in the foods in Florida than my local city, McD's, Burger King, KFC, I can eat all this locally. I think food is nearly the same worldwide now, with the exception of a few local specialities.

Maybe the Rose and Crown should start serving Chicken Tikka Masala and pasta dishes cos that is what the pubs around here serve. I also don't think that Harry Ramsden's fish and chips taste like traditional fish and chips way, they were nice but nowhere near as good my local chippy lol.
