I agree - that's why I started the thread. Wanted to get some first-hand info. Who knew it would start a debate about "over-indulging" our "spoiled" kids!

I emailed the nice folks that maintain the DIS menus to please check and see if something was left off. Best guess? Something was left off accidentally.

Thanks for letting us know. Also, if you ever think there is something missing, there is a link on the bottom of the page to report missing or incomplete items.

Obviously verticalchaos does not have children.

My kids are open to trying new things. But when we're on vacation and paying good money for dinner (no, we're not on the DDP;never said we were), I'm going to make sure my kids are eating something for dinner that they like and will finish. They can "try" things off my plate. Alot of us are not fortunate enough to order food regardless of cost & whether we even will like it!

Don't know if you've read the WHOLE thread, but the point was that Rose&Crown seems to be offering only one selection off the kids' menu - Bangers & Mash. I don't know about the rest of you parents out there, but the last thing I want to do on my vacation is force-feed my kids food they may not like. Just would like a CHOICE!

No, i don't have children. And my family was not made of money ~ but pickiness was not allowed in our family. I just don't get the whole concept of encouraging picky eating.

And yes, I did read the thread...I just saw more than one "child is such a picky eater" and even adults being "picky eaters". If you don't like the food or don't think your child will, don't go. But if your child hasn't tried something, how do you know they won't like it? I guess that's my question.

And as others have said, that menu is unofficial and others have said they have had other options.

But since I don't have kids, I guess I don't matter. So I'll leave you alone now.

Verticalchaos, for what it's worth, I agree with you. I mean, it's not really our business how parents raise their kids but . . . you make a good point.

I have two kids, and I agree with her rant in general. Kids (and increasingly, adults) in our culture are too often given permission never to step outside their comfort zone and try new things, IMO. But I don't see what it has to do with the topic at hand, since the only selection listed on the DIS's Rose & Crown kids' menu is one of the two specialty dishes that the restaurant serves.

My kids aren't picky eaters at all (see the pre-trippie to read all about DS9's quest for Disney sushi! ), but I'd be disappointed if the DIS menu is accurate because both kids are looking forward to "real" shepherd's pie. They've tried and enjoyed the wanna-be version at a local Irish pub, but they sub beef for the lamb and the kids want to see what it is like with lamb. If it turns out the menu is correct, I might even change that ADR since there are so many good Epcot restaurants and so little time to try them all.

FYI.....and completely off topic; The version you had at the Irish pub is a cottage or cowboy pie (made with beef) and is the North American rendition of the traditional English shepherd's pie (made with lamb). So you can let your kids know the difference in the two dishes and then they can have a little bit of food knowledge to impress others with!

I've always wondered what the difference was, but never cared enough to look it up.

I know the pub calls what they serve shepherd's pie, but then they list ground beef instead of lamb. But it is a sports bar primarily, that just happens to be owned by an Irish family and serves good food, so I don't expect much in the way of authenticity. Free wi-fi, every Tigers game on the big screens, and amazing corned beef... I can forgive a little sloppy terminology on the menu!

It is actually quite common for cottage pie to be misnamed. I love Shepherd's pie but loathe cottage pie so I have to be careful when ordering it to make sure it's actually made with lamb.

We visited the Rose and Crown a few weeks ago. There were three or four choices on the kids menu, although I cant recall what they were. The menu has changed, lots of meals gone, since our last visit. We took a look at the menu outside and cancelled our adr and just ate in the pub bit instead. There wasnt a good selection at all anymore.

Hmm...my mother was from Dublin, and I grew up eating what she called shepherd's pie, made with beef. She never called it cottage pie. Then again, hamburger here was a lot cheaper than lamb, and I don't think my dad cared for lamb so we had lamb chops on rare occasions.

If I get a chance to get to RR on this trip, I'll probably try the pie as I love lamb, but I haven't heard great reviews of it.

Someone MUST have been there recently and remember the menu.

I have seen the menu from February but I think the OP was looking for the more recent, updated one. Maybe the kids' meals stayed the same?

Oh man, my twin sister-in-laws just might be the smartest and craziest 6 year olds on the planet, and mose likely smarter than anyone up probably 16 years old and they have these friends who are exactly like them, Tyler and Hayden. They have already been taught English (duh), Italian and French... they've been out of the country four times, they're just already pretty well versed in other cultures for 6 year olds. But that's not the point of my story...
These four are so close that they've all come with us to WDW along with their families before and we have to not put them on any dining plan simply because they aren't picky eaters like most kids. They can't sstand having the same 5 meals everyday, they eat rabbit, duck, wontons, pasta, mushrooms (ew for me), whatever, they love trying everything. There's this pizza place locally owned in Oregon/Washington that serves Alligator Pie and when we order pizza from there with , we always get one of the Alligator and one of something else.
I just wish that I was raised in the same way (regarding to eating habits) as they were, I just might be one of the pickiest eaters I know. But I have tried to branch out it's hard though Needless to say I will not have my kids be even remotely picky as I am. I'll even eat seafood if it shows them it's OK to eat it. I just will not let them be so culinarily stiffled as I am.

If you want authentic British Food then the Rose and Crown is not the place I would recommend. The mashed potato is a completely different texture and taste to real English mash.

And re kids menus - English kids menus would include such things as fish fingers and chips (fries), chicken nuggets (NOT chicken fingers -they are different) and chips, beans on toast (baked beans in the UK are not the same as the US).

You would never see macaroni cheese on a kids menu in the UK. Sandwiches are also rarely seen - and our sandwiches have butter on the bread!

I don't understand why a place which declares itself as representing the UK doesn't offer food that is served in the UK style - everything we tried there (with the exception of Harry Ramsden's fish and chips served from the kiosk) was Americanised.

We went there for the first time in 1992 when our kids were 10 and 8 and hoped to find something 'from home' as we fancied a change from American food. We were really disappointed to see how they prepared the food there - subsequent visits haven't changed that view. I would stop going but DH likes to have his pint of proper British beer when we are in Epcot.
