Rose and Crown?

We have a 7.30pm ADR for The Rose & Crown, I'm put off now I don't fancy people stood round me when I could still be eating.
we ate there on our last trip, I agree the food isn't wonderful, but then I don't think any of the Disney restaurants have top food really, it's more for the experience I feel.

That has made me smile  - the photo underneath is of my daughters! I look like a much older version of the elder one (Kara)!! Why don't you do a search for my trip reports(GirlsonTour) and you can get all the info on her :thumbsup2

Wow. You and your daughter look so alike - from some of the photos its difficult to tell whos who..

And you certainly dont look old enough to have a daughter that old !!!! ;-)

We ate at the Rose and Crown as part of the Candlelight Processional package in December and found the meal very nice and the service good.

I think I had the lamb and barley soup followed by grilled steak, yorkshire pudding, green beans and beef demi glace. Can't remember what I had for pudding. Can't really say anything bad about the meal :)

We had a meal there last october and had an outside terrace table.. the food was hit and miss... my prawn cocktail was dry as a bone and tasted vile.. then my main the steak medium (piece of leather) Yorkshire pudding (microwaved burnt inedible) green beans .. tasted microwaved..(squeaky and chewy) so my meal was vile... My daughter (who has allegies and had a special meal made) enjoyed her meal and the other family members who had garlic mushrooms said they were lovely and the fish and chips was good...

our view of illuminations was restricted to say the least .. we decided to go to the 'private viewing area' which turned out to be the place that you can just get a take out and sit!! was obscured by people who had bagged a lakeside table and decided they were gonna spoil everyone elses view by standing up.. so we went back to our terrace table (this was befor desserts) to find loads and loads of people practically sat on our families laps!!
We had to have desserts with these same people still stood/sat around us ...
we waited and waited for our check and were the very last people out of Epcot that night .. I am surprised they didnt give us a broom to sweep up as it was that late!

I went to this place on good reccommendations but I certainly will not be going back there for a meal anytime soon!! I would give it 1 out of 10 for service/quality/choice and illuminations view..

Never tried the food but we were going to stop for a drink (well, mum was.. I was 20 at the time) but they were very pricey for something as basic as a shandy.

People don't stand around you when you are eating really. They sometimes are allowed to stand along the outside wall but only if the lower viewing area is closed due to rain. They wont be stood next to the tables or between them or anything (or shouldn't be).

Disneyvillianlover - None of the food is microwaved (they actually don't have one in the kitchen) but the Yorkshire puddings are made at lunch time and then sit under a hot lamp all night so probably explains the taste. Same with the green beans. Also, the viewing area is by the beer garden which is public seating, but the area you stand in down the bottom corner is meant to be private and roped off and then only people from inside the resturant can get to go out there. It is only a small area and that's why sometimes you can't get a decent view. Also if you have a terrace table you're meant to remain there so the area is only a size big enough to accomadate those guests in the resturant.

I'm not trying to defend the Rose and Crown because I do think some of the food is a rip off, but as I've said before I wouldn't go here just to watch the fireworks. This is a resturant and no where does it say you are guarenteed a view of the fireworks (in fact it doesn't even list this as a top point in the resturant descriptions in Disney). I personally think the lunch menu is better than the dinner menu and there's no point going here if you just want to see Illuminations as there are much better views from other areas (and if you really want a fab view just go and get a beer and sit in the beer garden - just don't stand and block other people's views :teeth:

Oh and I agree with the previous poster .. people were basically sat on our laps whilst we were trying to eat dessert... I think they came from inside!

I am just telling it how it was for us.... yes they lifted a 'rope' but it was to the place where takeouts were sitting.. you can defend it as much as you like .. the reason i went there was for the menu as DD is allergic to many things and this menu looked feasable.. and I would also prefer microwaved food than stale food that is left under lights for 7 hours!!! gee I will never be eating there again .. thankyou for the explanation of why the food was so terrible..

Seems they obviously were having an extremely bad day from the sounds of it! Can't believe they only had the rope at the top. It's meant to be on the bit down in the bottom left hand corner!

Anyway definately nicer places to eat in Disney! I only go there at lunch for the salads they do as these are fab.
