Rose and Crown Review

I understand why Kevin lets a dining experience ,when dining for a review, spiral to a pit of misery. And it does make for a very entertaining review. I think that at some point calling a manager over would be helpful as well. Seeing how a restaurant makes amends for wrong doings makes a huge impact on the quality of the restaurant.

I think that Kevin's reviews are a very valuable asset, I my sincerest thanks goes out to John and Pete for allowing this business expense. While I go to the World often I have not eaten everywhere. I love to try new places, and am still willing to try the rose and crown.

Kevin's review allows me to try it during a longer trip where one bad meal wouldn't ruin my trip. But If I fly down for a weekend trip I would not want to try there. And I think that if you are going as a once in a lifetime trip then his reviews are even more valuable.

So how does the quality of the fish n' chips at the Rose and Crown compare to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop? Hopefully it is not the same as we love the fish at Yorkshire County and it is a staple for us.

Now I feel compelled to visit the little Scottish pub here in Indy (Mac Nivens) for some Scotch Eggs and a pint of Tennent's.:drinking1

Have others had the same opinion of the food there? I have a reservation for there June 1st, as I was told it's the best place to view Illuminations, but even with the dining plan I don't want to be disappointed.

Should I change to the paris restaurant or stick with Rose and Crown?

Now I an craving Fish and Chips!

Got some right now :)

Also, in regards to Scotch Eggs, I've been in Brighton all day, and there was a sausage shop that had the most appealing Scotch Eggs. If I hadn't have been getting lunch right after, I would have got it.

I had the best salad and a very good burger. My DH loved the soup. We enjoyed it so much that we are going back in April. Can't wait!!!

at the end of the day what matters is whether you like the restaurant. i would not change based on a review. i look at these reviews as entertainment. they have a natural chemistry and comic timing that is priceless and always seem to get into some kind of fiasco. kind of a Smothers Brothers kind of thing going on. so.........enjoy the review...........enjoy the Pub.

Is the Yorkshire County Fish Shop still presented by Harry Ramsdens?

Harry Ramsdens is, I guess, the fish and chips equivalent of McDonalds, as in it's a chain over here. That said it's still good, although the Epcot one isn't quite as good as we get over here!

Not listened to Kevin's review yet as I've only just got back from taking a gang of teenage pupils to Spain for the night, so I've got it to look forward too.

I DO love (everyone's, but epecially Kevin's) the dining reviews :)

:goodvibes

I love the reviews too. Theres a Harry Ramsdens near me, but never been. I just stick to my local chippy. im halfway through the podcast so havnt heard the review yet, but last time i was in epcot i hated eating at the rose and crown.

Oh yes, I much prefer my local chippy to a 'Harry's' :)
I've only ever been into the Rose and Crown at the end of Drinking Around The World (didn't quite make it to Canada :lmao:) and don't remember it too much except joining in with the Piano Lady singing Beatles songs :rolleyes1

As I have said on more occasions than I can count....my reviews are a snapshot of one experience.

They are not an in-depth study as to the quality and efficiency of any of the establishments I've reviewed.

I think this helps in that this is the same criteria most guests will be dining under. They will almost always have a single, solitary experience at any Disney restaurant.

I have also always stated that these are my opinions and that each listener should visit the restaurant and try it for themselves.

That being said......I feel the menu at the Rose and Crown is limited and the quality less than stellar and I believe that your Disney dining dollars can be better spent elsewhere. Again, this is just my opinion.

And one other thing......I wasnt reviewing England or English food.....just The Rose and Crown. I frequent the Cricketeer Arms (an English pub at Festival Bay on International Drive) once in a while and they're fish and chips is much better and less expensive.....as is the fish and chips at Celebration Town Tavern.

I understand that Kevin, I just find it that much more annoying when these people are meant to be culturally representing our country!

Maybe fish and chips has a problem with the Florida water as well, not just bagels! ;)

Got some right now :)

AND YOU DIDN'T COME AND SEE ME?!?! Rude! I could of shown you where the best fish and chip shops where! :rotfl:

Why did you come to Brighton?

Sorry, was with some friends that I work with, and it took me quite a while to explain Pin Trading, let alone meeting another disney friend who I've not "actually" met :P

Although, very up for a UK DIS Meet...

We came for what we labelled as Brighton-Palooza. Basically just shopping for the day :P Got some pretty cool stuff, and a expensive trip to Cybercandy :P

I don't know what you mean! Explaining a Disney obsession is a perfectly normal thing.... ;)

No worries, when I met my first Dis-boarder (who was studying at my uni) all my friends thought I was a bit weird! Its is tough to explain!

Did you enjoy the shopping? I haven't been into town for ages since I am drowning in Uni work!

Was good, obviously went to the Disney Store, to pick up some new pins. I didn't know there was a LEGO store, so went in there, but mostly mosying around the Lanes.

I know, right?!!

Oh how I wish I lived by you to go with. I've got the hungries now!

Kevin, I enjoyed and agreed 100% with your review. We went to R&C for the CP lunch. We went on the day of DAP DATW. And if you recall, that was a downright chilly/COLD day in Orlando. We arrived for our reservation 15 minutes beforehand. 45 minutes later we were seated. First, they tried to seat us outside in the back. I told her no. Anyone who knows me knows I am cold in anything less than 80 degrees. After five minutes, our hostess comes back and says we can be seated under cover. We passed several tables located under heat lamps and that were situated toward the inner part of the tarps. Gee, guess where we sat? By the open door outside, but under the tarps. I asked for inside and was told that nothing was available. I was miserable to say the least. No matter how stellar anything might have been from that point on (and it wasn't) there was NO tip to be had. That was just asinine.

We were allowed to choose from the regular lunch menu. I don't remember what my children had, but I had the fish and chips and thought it very good. It was hot, and that's all that mattered to me (remember, I'm FREEZING!). The fish was a nice mild fish. I ordered cups and cups of Earl Grey tea and have been hooked ever since. But our waitress was rarely about, just as in Kevin's case. But as I said, it was cold and she was INSIDE! I'm sure it's lovely in the spring and summer and fall AND most winters for that matter, but for whatever reason, it's just been cold down there. I was not amused.

Our waitress never addressed my children, but always me. I view my children as very well spoken and well behaved. I MADE her talk and listen to THEM. That's just how I roll. And that's MY take on the Rose and Crown.

Thanks for a great review, Kevin!

I agree Wishspirit that whilst Kevin isn't reviewing England it is just a shame that 'we' performed so badly on this occasion. Everyone has a bad experience though; we went to Mythos at Universal last trip, everyone seems to rave about it but without dount the wrost meal we have veer had in US.

BTW we are only 1.5 hours down the road from Brighton and despite our familay saying ever summer we will visit this yea, we never seem to maange it !

If I had my choice right now, I'd go with Rose and Crown over Chefs de France (haven't tried Bistro de Paris yet....). We ate at R&C in 2005 and it was good!

I know that Pete, John, and Kevin LOVE CdF but we had an AWFUL experience in Dec 2009: food, service, everything was yuck.

So goes to show, it's all a snapshot. It's all in your experience. I too hate to see people panic over ADR's because of what they read from others on the boards. Try it and see for yourself!!!

I used to love Rose & Crown. The last time we went there though I wound up with a vicious case of food poisoning. It almost cost me my spa appointment at the Grand Flo Spa the very next day --- I would NOT have been a happy camper.

I love England and the Brits. I'm disappointed that this is yet another WDW restaurant that has gone down the tubes. I hope they hear the review and make some changes...SOON! :) For now, I'll stick with getting my fish & chips outside at Yorkshire.

I like the cottage pie...it's good for regular-food people, like me...but unless I'm going for a sit-down view of Illuminations, I don't go there.

Plus, they pull down shades if it rains, so not a bad place to watch Illuminations if it is raining.
