I have to say I am embarrassed about how they are portraying my country!

I am embarrassed that the server was so rude to your mother, I would seriously complain. I cannot believe that anyone, let alone a person representing my country, would have the audacity to speak over someone's head. Plus her lack of actual serving is terrible! I can't believe that! Makes me want to do some serious lecturing when I get over there in June!!

On to the food:

The sausage you refer to is usually called blood pudding here. I agree, just the name puts me off! However my boyfriend says, if done properly which is difficult, it is delicious!

The scotch egg is common place, you can buy them from the fridge section of supermarkets here, so yes they are usually cold to room temperature. However for the price you are paying you would think they would give you a bit more excitement!

I am also upset how they ruined fish and chips! Come on!! Any street corner in the UK does a half decent fish and chips (in fact I had chips from the chippy this evening for dinner!).

I am really saddened it was this bad for you! :sad2: I haven't booked to eat there (I don't want to travel half the way across the world to get something I could get at home for half the price!), and I hope Disney hear this review and get their butts in gear!

Don't worry Kevin has had plenty of other bad American waiters/waitresses too . I am headed to your neck of the woods in about a month and I can't wait to taste some really great fish and chips and lots of other great treats!!!

we ate there in june and i found the fish and chips to be adequate. daughter had a steak and was not impressed and my wife had a chicken dish and says she does not remember anything about it....this is not unusual.........overall we did decide that it would not be on our list again. we were in the outside dining room in the back and the highlight of the meal was a psychopathic squirrel who was attacking everyone and trying to steal food, not helped a bit by the idiots throwing it food.

Now you've got me worried. I've got Rose and Crown booked for our trip June 1st for Illuminations.

Hopefully others find it better than Kevin.

I haven't listened to the show yet, but I agree, that's somewhat embarrising, and now I want a Scotch Egg!

We've eaten at the R&C a few times and never had a bad meal. Ok we don't have high expectations for it - it's pub food. I wouldn't really say that the food is authentically British. One interesting point tho - the fish batter is a dry mix that is imported from the UK and then mixed with water onsite.
We go to R&C for the bar atmos. Carl (bar manager) is a great guy who always takes the time to speak to us. It's also kinda cool we have the same birthday.
It's a bit small in there but always good for a beer.... Even if I do drink imported continental Stella - the british beers just don't taste the same as back home!

Cant beat a good scotch egg! Makes a good snack, but we don't really see it as a 'meal' do we?
I've started seeing scotch eggs made with free range eggs on the supermarket shelves. 'bout time

I think the blood pudding is more referred to as "Black Pudding" nowdays - English people probably complained about the word "Blood too":rotfl2:

I pur haggis in the same ball-park to be honest. Black Pudding is better warm but i'll eat it both hot and cold.

I too fancy a Scotch Egg too

Ive heard Kevin moan about the way people talk (or dont!) to his mother in the wheelchair before in other resturants.

DSNY4ever - a decent fish and chip shop will always be busy - so look for that to get a decent meal:thumbsup2

It's like getting a steak sandwich outside Philadelphia or pizza outside New York City. It just isn't the same.

Spend a day in a wheelchair and let me know how you feel at the end of it.

Or just ask someone you might know who is confined to a wheelchair how they feel they are treated.

I think you will find it an eye opener.

OK, having now heard this review, I have two things to say:

I think that asking for a shotglass of hot milk to thin out soup is weird.

At one point I thought of eating at this restaurant. I will not be doing that now. If I want any UK food, I'll probably get it at Raglan Road.

I think you took my comment the wrong way Kevin - I was agreeing with you that its rude (I just forgot to add on the end that its not just the staff in the UK resturant). I have been in that the situation - and unfortuantely it was my first trip to disney world that opened my eyes to that behaviour

I think this really shows how a particular day, or waiter, or anything else can change an experience. I LOVE Kevin's reviews, but so many times, including this one, I disagree. We have eaten at the Rose and Crown on numerous occasions, have always had excellent service, and excellent food.

I'm only posting this so people don't just turn away from the place. I have no interest in it of course, especially living up here in PA, but just wanted to note that our experiences have always been positive. I also think they have some of the best fish and chips around, and yeah, I've eaten them a LOT of places. :)

Maybe I've just been lucky? Who knows, but again, an experience can very greatly from day to day, which I know it really should not, but unfortunately does at times. :confused3

Kevin has said on so many occassions - THESE ARE PERSONAL REVIEWS.

Plus I think he tries to cover this aspect when he does re-reviews - we all know if the 2nd time is just as bad then we can decide to go on the reviewers personal judgement or not?:thumbsup2

I agree with this. I know many people on the boards who love Crystal Palace and Garden Grill. I had a bad experience at both and will not be going back to either. At Crystal Palace it was most because of the wait staff. Garden Grill had other stuff going on though...

I've also seen a lot of people who don't like Chef Mickey's, and many attribute it to bad service. But my family has never had bad service there. :confused3

As I have said on more occasions than I can count....my reviews are a snapshot of one experience.

They are not an in-depth study as to the quality and efficiency of any of the establishments I've reviewed.

I think this helps in that this is the same criteria most guests will be dining under. They will almost always have a single, solitary experience at any Disney restaurant.

I have also always stated that these are my opinions and that each listener should visit the restaurant and try it for themselves.

That being said......I feel the menu at the Rose and Crown is limited and the quality less than stellar and I believe that your Disney dining dollars can be better spent elsewhere. Again, this is just my opinion.

And one other thing......I wasnt reviewing England or English food.....just The Rose and Crown. I frequent the Cricketeer Arms (an English pub at Festival Bay on International Drive) once in a while and they're fish and chips is much better and less expensive.....as is the fish and chips at Celebration Town Tavern.

Heh, it's funny you mention Crystal Palace. We have been there twice in the past two years, and both times, while the food was OK, the service was very subpar. Not to mention that on each visit, our kids missed seeing one of the characters up close, as just as they were about to reach our table, the parade thing started up, and we missed them. Service wise, we have always felt SEVERELY rushed for some reason. (I DO so love the Pooh breakfast lasagna though)!

Again, goes to show how experiences can very from person to person, day to day, place to place!

Oh, and hello from Whitehall! (Just noticed you are from Bethlehem - my other "home town"). :)

I absolutely understand that, and again, generally love your reviews! (Even if I do have different experiences from time to time). :) Keeps things interesting, and you have gotten me to try a number of places I might never had tried before. (The Wave comes to mind from a ways back).

I REALLY need to check out the Celebration Town Tavern on our next trip. I keep hearing very good things about it! We'll be visiting Celebration for the first time on our next visit in August, to check out the new Corpus Christi Catholic Church for Mass on Sunday anyway, may make a lunch date at the Tavern. :goodvibes
