Rope dropping is becoming a worse experience

Tom Staggs said this last January "Like most people who visit Walt Disney World Resort, my family and I have our “must-do” attractions, and as the father of three boys, those attractions often end with the word “mountain.” Now, rather than dashing as a group, or even splitting up to gather FastPasses, imagine booking guaranteed ride times for your favorite shows and attractions even before setting foot in the park. With MyMagic+, guests will be able to do that and more, enabling them to spend more time together and creating an experience that’s better for everyone."
I agree. His "experience that's better" obviously involves standing in long stand-by lines -- together as a family (and large group of complete strangers).

.......... and just hope that your OWN ticket isn't the problem. We were the VERY first ones at the turnstiles on our trip a few years ago. That's the year they had just installed new software at all the resorts. When they finally started letting people in....... our tickets wouldn't work and we got shuffled to Guest Relations, where we proceeded to wait in line. For our trouble they gave us a set of fastpasses.......... good at every ride but the one we were there early to ride (TSMM).

Doh! I'd hate that! I'm not a big TSMM person. We've ridden it a few times but never really make a huge effort for it. With that said, I would of been certain to point out to guest relations that the one ride those anytime fastpasses wouldn't work on was the one ride that were inconvenienced out of riding. They should of definitely recompensed you on that. Sorry it didn't work. I've been fortunate to never have a ticket problem like that. We are usually front of the line tapstilers ourselves.

I told them we were there early to do TSMM but they were only willing to offer the FP that excluded it. They did tell us that we had to go back to the front desk at the Pop when we got back that night. They had to completely reissue our entire package to fix the mistake, which did result in resetting our dining credits. They also gave us an "any attraction" fastpass for the following day and a cab voucher to help us make up some lost park time. They couldn't give us back that head start on TSMM, but they certainly went above and beyond. :thumbsup2

Yay for happy endings! :cool1:

Glad you got it made up to you in some form. I would of been ticked to lose my morning's plans like that too. Going into this summer's trip with reduced expectations due to the FP+ and the dynamics of the parties we are traveling with. I think I maybe would of cried until someone gave me a Mickey bar if that were me. :joker:

How about EMH? Is getting to rope drop on those days any better than regular rope drop? And if so, what time should we arrive? We used to ride Toy Story, grab fast passes and then stand in the stand by line. So we could ride it at least 3 times that morning. Doesn't sound like that will be possible.

Of course, it's possible, it's just a matter of how long your standby waits will be.

To accomplish what you want, you can get a FP+ reservation for TSMM at the time of your choice. Then go right to TSMM and ride twice. A lot of people, including me, have gone to TSMM right when the park opens at 8:45 and gotten on and off the ride before 9 AM. If you get right back in the standby line, the wait shouldn't be that long. Even if it's 30 minutes you will have 2 rides in before 9:30 with a FP still in hand. You might anticipate the posted standby wait at 9 AM to be longer than the actual wait, so, if you really want to ride TSMM 3 times, you may want to get into the line and get inside the building to see how it is moving.

Personally, if I had a FP+ for TSMM and did it another time on standby at 9 AM, I would be moving on to something else to take advantage of the shortest lines of the day.

We were at HS on Thursday. We got in the far left line and when they opened up the ADR line to everyone we jumped over and were 2nd in line. I took 2 boys to sign up for Jedi Training and then went to TSMM and only had a 20 minute wait! We rode TSMM 4 times that day. Once at rope drop, once with FP+ and 2 times instead of Fantasmic because it was rainy. Almost made it 5 but when we got off the last time it was 9:02.

That is something I hadn't thought of before, but now that I think about it, you are totally correct. Arriving at TSMM at 9:05, if the line spills out the door and on down the street you are at about a 45 minute wait. The standby line was always that long, and often trailed down the street. The wait to get FP was about 15 minutes in the opposite direction. Taking away the FP line, unless you are in the very front of the pack you are looking at an hour wait or more if you choose to head to TSMM first thing at rope drop.

Like another poster said, instead of people running, pushing, and shoving to get to the FP machine, now you have people who will run, push, and shove to get to standby.

$1.5 billion well spent! ;)

Tom Staggs said that? Finally, an objective opinion! :rotfl2:
