Rope Drop?

Hello friends!

We have been to the Magic Kingdom countless times but have never been present for the famous "rope drop" If the park is slated to open at 9AM, is rope drop at 9AM? I heard something about Main Street opening an hour before the rest of the park- is this true? We want to be there bright and early and race to our first ride (which we couldn't get FP for), so help us out! Thanks so much!

The actual "lands" won't open up until 9 for rope drop but being able to get down Main Street beforehand is a great head start. And if you are lucky, they may drop the ropes a few minutes early but I'm not sure if they've been doing that more recently.

Thanks for the reply! So the park entrance opens to Main Street at 8AM then, correct?

I'd love to know the answer to this as well; we've never managed to do rope drop and last time we went we didn't see as much (too many late character breakfasts plus a 3 1/2 year old); this time I've vowed to get there early so I'd hate to show up when I think it's early and it not really be early enough (likewise if I have my family waiting for more than about 20 min for rope drop let's just say they won't be happy and there may be consequences...

For a 9AM opening, Main Street will open 8ish if not a tad earlier. The new opening show at the castle is 8:55. Once the show is over, they drop the ropes to get past the hub.

The new system, combined with the new security setup, is really fantastic for 9AM openings, IMHO. No more morning crush at the front gate, it's all very smooth and orderly.

If 7DMT is your first ride, be prepared to wait even if you are there at rope drop. For our trip this past February, we were there at rope drop and towards the front. When we got to the 7DMT, it was already a 45 minute wait. We were lined up outside of the queue and starting to go around the mountain. People were lining up all the way around the other side by Ariel. It seemed like a majority of the people went straight to 7DMT at rope drope.

Yeah, I agree with this. And once they all turn away towards Fantasyland and you go do something else, it's fantastic!
