Rope drop or night at AK

We have always done rope drop at AK and stayed for the bulk of the day (4-5:00 we head out). This year we are going last week of August and with the additional hours/attractions trying to decide if we do AK mid-day through the evening or rope drop to early evening?

Good question. Before the late night hours, we would often visit late afternoon and find the lines to be very short for all attractions; especially a couple of hours before closing which could be 5pm or 7pm. From what I could tell during our recent visit, the night crowds were at AK to see the light shows. The rides were not crowded during the late afternoon and early evening just like our previous visits before the night time shows started.

It was difficult moving around the crowds watching the tree lights; hopefully WDW will improve guidance through this area. The routes through the park can be a little confusing during the day so take away the daylight and it gets a little more confusing.

Expedition Everest is a great ride in the dark.

Right now ak at night is really just a couple rides in the dark. The sarfari is kind of worth it if you can time it so it's not completely dark yet. EE at night is great. Kali has a different feel as well. (well they made a show but it's a see it once and regret it type of show).

Most of the park is opened only in the day so if you love the park you kind of need to still do your daytime there and decide if it's worth doing the couple rides opened at night.

Are the Festival of the Lion King show and the Finding Nemo show open at night? We were thinking of going there the afternoon we arrive but I'll skip if there isn't a lot to do.

I would like to know if those shows are available at night as well! ROL is not expected to be open by end of August is it? If we arrive mid-day that last week of August we could KR during the day, do EE single rider, eat mid-day meal and the FP Safari for sunset and we as FP nighttime Everest? Or should we FP Everest and Safari during the day?

I would FP EE during the day. I'm guessing that the single-rider wait would be longer during the day than the standby or single-rider once it is dark (late). Maybe there would be an EE FP obtainable after using the 3rd FP for sunset Safari.

We are doing rope drop, breaking back to resort midday then going back for evening. We have Tusker House breakfast ressies with Jungle Book First Showing. We scheduled 2 of 3 Fast Passes for the evening hours including Expedition Everest and Dinosaur both open in evening this summer at least. Nightime safari is open till 11pm this summer as well.
