HI I have heard mention of this and have no clue can you please explain it to me? Oh and idiot proof that please? Thanks!

ANyway, what time where , what happens and how!! Not too many questions right? Well, I know you guys will have it covered as always!

Thanks look forward to all the info! Looked for info on it and seem to still be in the dark, hey who has tinks light please flash my way!!!!! :tink: what great DISers!!!

This happens at park opening. For example, when you go into the MK there are ropes up at the entrance to the lands- Fantasyland, Toontown, ect. And at 9 am the ropes are dropped and you can go to the rides (except for Toontown. The rope drops at 10 am for this).

Sometimes they will also do a show prior to the rope drop, we have seen it at AK and MK.

The two "big" rope drop "cememonies/shows" are now at MK and DAK.
Both are performed during EMH mornings.
Both shows feature the characters with "speaking roles".
MK: at the trains station (with singing and dancing).
DAK: after your cross the bridge from the "Oasis" (no singing).

Epcot allows guests to "re-group" near Innoventions and CMs "hold" them until scheduled open time, then allow folks to go either way towards Soarin' or Test Track/Mission Space.

MGM allows guests to "re-group" near the Call-Board.
There is a very breif recorded announcement (that "sticks it" to Universal Studios without directly saying so) and then everyone turns RIGHT, and walks quickly to ToT and/or RnRC.

At MK, if you have attended Cindy's Royal Breakfast early, they do have a rope to hold you from FL until "opening time".

At Epcot's International Gateway, there are reports of holding guests at a rope near the UK.

Any more info on this? I always love things that "stick it" to Universal, especially in a sneaky manner. :rotfl:

It says (paraphrased), "Welcome to the Diney-MGM Studios, the most-visited (or most-popular) movie studios in the world."

Simply an implication that Disney is ahead of the "other guys" at Orlando and CA.

So can you get into the park prior to 9- to be at the rope drop at Fantasyland at 9am? Or do you have to have an early ADR to get into the park that early>

There is no more rope-drop at Fantasyland (except for those already inside the park early after having breakfast at CRT or CP).

NOW the rope-drop for all of MK is only done in front of the train station.
After that, the "lands" are open.
Exception is Toontown (opens at 10am).

On EMH days, they do the Rope Drop Ceremony at the train station, but there are ropes across every "land" but Tomorrowland and Fantasyland.

An hour later (regular park opening time) they simply drop the other ropes (no actual ceremony).

I was at MK in July and had an early ADR @ Crystal Palace. I had been trying to ride Pirates, but the line was always an hour or so long. (I had rented a scooter, but was alone and you have to use a manual.) I am not strong enough to push myself, so I had one goal in mind after breakfast. There was a CM at Adventureland just to the end of the little bridge. When opening happened, he walked us in part way to Adventureland, then he stepped aside and everyone past hi to go on to POC. That was my experiance. Then at 10:00, I was at rope drop for Toontown. It was much less formal, but there wasn't but a couple of us there waiting. The CM just dropped the rope and told us to enjoy our trip.

My DD and I happened to be heading for toontown last summer right at rope drop time. Mickey and Minnie emerged from somewhere, both of them took her hands, and they marched with her up to the rope, whereupon it dropped. She then got to follow Mickey to his tent for an autograph. (although she really wanted to go to the rollercoaster).

I don't know if this is "normal" for toontown.

we have a breakfast for 8:20 at Donald's Breakfast.....us inside AK. Our plan is to head over to Safari right after. Probably right around 9:00, but just in case we get done early. Anybody know where the ropes are inside AK?

They usually "hold" the early Donald's Breakfast folks inside Dinoland until the main Rope-Drop Ceremony is over.

K. Safari will be tougher to get to from Dinoland under these conditions.

"SECRET" TIP: Go out the Dinoland entrance toward the Tree of Life.
Look for the EXIT (yes, exit) of "It's Tough to Be a Bug".
Walk down the EXIT toward the Tree, and just KEEP GOING past the ITTBAB Exit Doors.
This is actually a "secret" (but very public-OK) path with a nice watgerfall and a several birds on display.
It will put you out on the other side, right next to "Africa" and you'll then walk thru Harambe to the K. Safari entrance.
-------------

Otherwise, many folks go to EE directly after an early Donald's Breakfast:
In May, 2006 this was our experience:

DAK non-EMH (9am open)
Donald's Breakfastosaurus: 8am Ressie.
Enter for breakfast at 7:55am
Breakfast finished at 8:40am
CM "held" everyone at Bone-yard area (nobody allowed to go back into DAK)
At 8:55am, we were "released" to walk on past the Tarzan Rocks/Nemo Theater (still just I-beams, under construction) to the bridge where two CM's were holding a rope.

They watched across the water until they saw the hordes of folks (being led by CM's) heading towards Asia.

They speed-walked us back to EE, but the "hordes" from the front gate beat us to the standby entrance (Asia is the shorter route to EE than Dinoland).

But, one of our CM's walked OUR group directly thru the FASTPASS entrance (she told the FP CM that we were "coming through"!)

We were on the FIRST ride, in the second car of EE that day!

COOL!

Now, I don't know if this is STANDARD PROCEDURE (so don't COUNT on it to happen) but it was a PERFECT way to start our DAK day, that morning.

Yes it is.

Thanks Robo!! Not sure what we'll do. DW wants to ride safari first, but I'm trying to layout a general tour plan that cuts down on backtracking or walking. :rolleyes1 Since it will be mid Sept. I'm guessing the crowds and waits will not be that bad so sticking to a regimented tour plan is probably not necessary.

There's no way around the long walks in DAK.

I'd do EE first, then Safari, Festival of Lion King/ITTBAB (depends on time the Lion King starts) then back to Dinoland and/or Asia.

Being "very first thing" on K. Safari (I've ridden dozens of times) is not really a guarantee of seeing more animals than a bit later in the morning.

I've even ridden KS at 3pm and had a great time.
Its always the "luck of the draw" for animal activity.

The UG suggests that on some days, MK will open the Main Street area prior to the official opening, with ropes blocking entry to the various lands. Is this not the case?

Not anymore.

But, like all-things-Disney, they can change (and change back) without notice of any kind.
;)

I normally sleep in so I never see the opening of the parks.

However, Im HEAVY into photography and wondered if I can still get into the parks and simply not ride the attractions if Im not at a resort.

Example: I know at night for EMH, I can stay in the parks (I do it all the time) and simply not ride. Will they let me in the park (namely the MK) and not ride the rides for morning EMH?

I ask because it would be a great time for me to get some great park photos without heavy crowds.
