Rooms not ready at 3:00

This is my personal opinion, but here goes...

Rooms are going to be cleaned/inspected as fast as humanly possible. A lot depends on when other people check-out AND what condition the room is left in from the previous occupants. As someone who has worked in a hotel before, I've seen rooms that were completely trashed - I'm talking a whole pizza face down on the carpet. That doesn't get magically cleaned in a few minutes. And I'm not even going into all the towel animals that have to be made for those who aren't checking-out! pirate:

You also have to remember that of the available clean rooms, the pool is made even smaller when room requests are being duly noted and "earmarked" for someone (maybe you!). Not to mention that of the total amount of rooms, guests are checking in and out at various times and on various days, with the weekends probably having bigger turnover. I can also tell you that sometimes people will check-out at the front desk and then hang out in their room as long as possible, which then makes it impossible to start cleaning it. The last thing the front desk CMs want is to keep telling you that your room isn't ready.

I know it's frustrating to wait for your room to be ready, but I personally think you're setting yourself up for disappointment 1) if you arrive hours before check-in time begins and are not prepared to wait 2) you have a "no patience" attitude when you first walk up to the desk, and/or 3) you feel that if you're paying hundreds of dollars, that your room should be magically available when you think it should be. I know most people are tired after they travel, but remember - you're at Disney World, which is far better than many parts of this world.

Our flight is supposed to get into Orlando around 11:30AM. Of course, it would be lovely if our room is available when we arrive at the resort, but we will be prepared to explore our resort, visit the parks, etc. while we wait. It doesn't make it any less magical for us, and we don't feel like it's unacceptable. If our room requests are granted, it's just gravy! We'll be happy just to be at Disney World and not stuck in our stressful workplaces.

A little patience can pay off for all when you set your attitude to :wizard: magic mode :wizard: when arriving at your resort.

point well taken, I will try to enjoy the detours of life but that is very hard for someone like me who LOVES and thrives on consistency and scheduling :flower:

we get to see Cirque for the first time!! (for me anyway) and for some reason or another I seem to have an intuition while playing roulette, I almost always win big at the Roulette tables!!! Slots, on the other hand, hate me...but I am so easily amused that I play them anyway

Good luck, maybe you will hit it big! If you decide to see some other shows check out Tix For Tonight (think thats the right name), at the Fashion Show mall. They open at noon each day and you can get show tickets for half price. :goodvibes A very good deal!

Enjoy!

I knew that the rooms would not be ready when we checked in at 7:00 am and at 12:30. Actually, I didn't want them to be ready b/c that would mean that I would probably get whatever was available and not my request of nonsmoking. I didn't, and do not, ask for rooms that are ready when I check in for that reason.
I also did not request specific floors, connecting, adjoining rooms, etc. I did request a particular building at POR, though, but those buildings are huge with lots of rooms...especially with no room or view request to take care of.

I did expect to have a room at 3:00. Apparently, that was my mistake...I thought check-in was 3:00. I'm glad that other Disers knew about the official check-in time, but I really had no idea. Everything that I have seen has said 3:00.

Thanks for the info.! :goodvibes

We checked in this past Friday at All Star Movies around 2:30 and had no problem. We usually make it a point to check in between 12 and 3 and I don't recall ever having to wait for a room.

We checked into CR at 1 p.m. the week before Easter. They had a room ready, but it wasn't the room we wanted (ground floor North Wing), so we had them store our luggage and headed to the park. We returned at 4:30 and our room was ready. We planned on our room not being ready since we checked in so early, so it wasn't a big deal.

we have always checked in early over the years and never had a problem. the earliest being 8am. Granted I do not have special requests and such. we usually go up early that day to do a park so it doesnt bother me if the room isnt ready since we will be gone all day. the only time there was a delay was at the swan and by the time we hopped on the bus over to the MK I was getting a phone call that my room was ready. :flower:

We once waited until after 6:00 p.m. for our room at CR during spring break. It was the one and only time we traveled by train and we were not happy campers. The lobby was a sea of folks – we made a pact never to travel during that time again. Just too crowded, IMHO. :sad2:

I am guessing that the strong promotions WDW has right now are making travel there too attractive to pass up. And “busy season” is gearing up as the kids are out of school.

We leave for OKW a week from today. We have an early flight (get in at 9:00 a.m.) but are using ME. I’m praying it is not too crazed.

I have to agree with SKIwee1 and WDWBetsy. Rooms not being ready when you arrive or at "official" check in time is not unique to Diasey. Happens all over the world. I've said it before and I'll say it again..with all the requests for late check out, special rooms, special buildings, trashed rooms (and I have seen them) one of us will end up having to wait. We never count on anything and since we are on vacation...we go with the flow.

We have arrived on weekends and weekdays always early morning, usually checkin in before 10am. Our room was ready when we checked in on all of our visits! That being said, I can understand it taking extra timeto get all the checked out rooms clean for new guests so we never expect our room to be ready earlier than 3pm just in case!
Now, we usually stay at moderates but if we were paying what some of you pay for deluxes, I would have a problem with my room not being ready by 3pm as well.

On the 2nd day of our 10-day WDW trip in May, our 2nd room at AKL was not ready until around 4:30 on Sunday. The day before, we did not arrive until after 5. Now, when we visited in Oct. (and the resort was nearly as busy then), our room was ready by 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Go figure. I guess it just depends on your room assignment, when the people before you leave, and where your room is on the cleaning rotation. Over the course of our stay, I noticed at AKL that they generally clean the rooms of guests staying over much later in the day. (Our room was never cleaned before 3.) Thus, I would assume they are doing the rooms of folks leaving first. You would then think that these rooms would all be ready early. Perhaps a late check out or a really dirty room messes this up??/

We have had to wait a few times for our room, and I understand that when they are busy, it could take more time. The last, time we checked into WL about 2:00 pm. I was given the lecture about our room not being ready because check in wasn't until 3:00, but when I asked about a view I had requested when I made the reservation, the CM smirked and said "No, those are already given to people who got here earlier today." So which is it? Check in is at 3:00 (or after) but if you aren't there earlier, you only get the leftovers? It was a frustrating conversation. I think our room was finally ready about 3:45-4:00. That was just the first of our frustrating events at WL.

I don't know...5 or 6 seems very late to me, I would be upset having had just flown or even been driving for days :earseek: Seems I read a post that suggested WDW was quite understaffed these days...with the chang in season and the dining package and schools getting out and so on, it seems like WDW might be having kinda a transition problem here. Don't know and haven't been but I know if I am paying 300 a night to stay somewhere I better get my full time in or be comped in some way. 3 or 4 at the latest IMO.

With all due respect, this attitude is wrong. If check-in is at 3 pm, it's quite possible that the room won't be ready. This happens in every city and in evey hotel in the world.

If you weren't able to check in till later...how does that affect those of us on the MYW plus dining packages?

I thought if the room wasn't ready, we could just go grab a bite to eat. However, will we have our "card" with the food credits and park passes?

that is a really good question!!! seems to me as though it would limit almost anything that would need resort ids including swimming, using dining plans, and maybe even transportation??? What about park passes?? Aren't those on our resort id's too??
