Room requests and never getting them?

Just a uick question for you. What time do you arrive for check-in? We always arrive around 7:00 am and check in early before we go to the parks. I think that part of the reson we have our requests granted is because we check in before almost every one else. I don't know if this helps or not.

Take Care,
Dana

Your view preferences are guaranteed. If you want an oceanview room in a beach resort you pay extra. If you want a savanagh view room in AKL you pay extra and you get it.

Thanks to guide books and the internet more people are trying to request the "best rooms". There aren't enough of those for everyone. High floor corner room is probably not a reasonable request. Requesting one of the, few, partial LV view rooms at the POLY isn't a reasonable request to expect.

I agree bunk beds should be a request you should be allowed to reserve, but don't complain if Disney charges extra.

I totally agree...We went to ASM and were told by the Disney cm when making the reservations that we needed to have 2 building choices incase your first choice was full. Well, we got neither! I was soooo mad. They know who is checking in and out why is it so hard to reserve a room in a particular area?

I tend to agree with you. Particularly about the smoking thing. There is NO WAY that I will stay in a resort room that has been smoked in - I don't smoke in my everyday life, nor do I want to experience that on my vacation.

That, and whether you get a king bed in the deluxe resorts, should be something you reserve right up front (why can you reserve king beds in values and moderates, but not deluxes?????). Beyond that, they can put me wherever!

I'm crossing all fingers, toes, arms, and legs that we get a non-smoking king room at the AKL in a week's time - I will be checking in bright and early!!

I understand their might be extra charges but at least then I would know what type of room.

I agree- a corner room on certain floor is too much.

Why can't we reserve non-smoking and bund beds and when they are full, I can decide if I am willing to have 2 queens and smoking and book it anyway.

It almost feels like a game trying to get a reasonable room request and I seem to always lose the game. :sad2:

We usually fly in and get there between noon and 1:00.
Well, we are staying at WL in June and I have only requested non-smoking and bund beds. Maybe I will be a winner this time.

The deluxe resorts have very few rooms with K beds and most of those rooms are handicap accessible rooms.

I think that some people are becoming way too specific in their room requests. The hotels are dealing with so many bookings that it would be a logisitcal nightmare to fully accomodate everyone's requests down to the finest detail.

However, there are certain requests which I feel should be honoured above all others - non smoking rooms and bed types.

I will never sleep in a smoking room, it's as simple as that. If I am given one on my next trip, I will ask to be moved.

Bed types - I know that you can pay extra for king beds (don't know about deluxes). There could be a very good reason for requesting certain beds, like the OP stated with her arguing kids :) . I think that's reasonable.

I am adding a request to my booking for an upper floor room. That is for my own peace of mind while travelling solo. Don't know if I'll get it but I'll try my best. It's not vital though.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

lomillerin, having sons and a daughter, I can understand needing seperate beds. I don't know how many bunkbeds are available in AKL or WL (I've had the impression that there aren't that many????) but I have a couple of suggestions for what they are worth:

I would request nonsmoking and bunkbeds and leave it at that. If you add a particular savannah, you may end up "muddying the waters."

If bunkbeds are your highest priority, conside the cabins at FW. Every one has bunkbeds.

Book at the Polynesian or CR and you will get a daybed as well as two queens. The same is true at most rooms at the GF and I think most at the Y&BC and BWI.

But good luck! :goodvibes

My DH is a smoker and we request smoking rooms only to get to the room and find out that it is non-smoking. I usually throw him outside but its inconvenient for everyone.
This is our first trip to AKL but I when I booked I was told I have a savannah view room instead of a view of the parking lot. The only thing I couldn't request was the particular savannah the room is on. This doesn't seem unreasonable even for a deluxe hotel. Of course if I booked a savannah view and got there to find out they gave me a view of the parking lot then I would be upset.
I stay at the Four Seasons frequently and often have my room assignment changed when I'm checking in, such as upgrades to suites, etc.
These are only room requests.

Bummer, 90% of the reason we are staying at WL on our next trip is so DS can sleep in the bunk bed. (Don't get me wrong, I like it, but would also like to try other resorts) We are arriving late in the evening in early December (10:00 PM) if we don't get the bunk bed, can we switch rooms the next day? or when one becomes available? or switch resorts? Anyone have any ideas on the number or percentage of bunk beds?

Oh, this is just truly my impression. We've never even stayed at WL much less studied it. Check the FAQ at the top of the this board...maybe it can help. My impression is just based on other people posting on the DIS.

But if a bunkbed is your #1 priority, try FW. We stayed there twice many years ago and have great memories. :goodvibes

The question isn't how many bunkbed rooms (or any other kind of rooms) that a resort has. The question is how many become available on the day you check in. There may be a total of (hypothetical) 200 bunk bed rooms at a resort but on the day you check in only 50 of them are available. Now take the bunkbed rooms that are available that day with a savannah view and you might be down to 20. Divide those 20 rooms into the 100 reservations that want one and you see the problem.

Disney's reservation system isn't set up to block specific rooms at all their resorts upon booking. What would happen if the room you reserved was down for maintenance when you arrived? Or was in the process of refurbishment? Or the prior occupant decided to extend their stay? Or you got there and didn't like your room and wanted to be moved?

There's no system that will work 100% of the time. If there was, every hotel and resort in the world would be using it.

Disney made K bedded rooms a separate category for the moderate resorts. Their computer system can handle that. They could do the same with bunk beds. Under your example Disney wouldn't have made 100 reservations for bunk beds. If Disney overbooks the standard category guests don't object to being upgraded to water view. If water view is overbooked guests don't object to being upgraded to concierge. The problem is a guest reserving bunk beds really doesn't want to be upgraded to another room type. Disney would have to under book the room type.
