It seems at times that a lot of threads on this Board are about room requests or views.....that's fine,....a little redundant but fine.

Except for one recent poster who got stuck with a dumpster view at VWL, and the early morning beeping from apparently the garbage truck, very few posters have had problems.

On the other hand my wife and I have never made any room requests other than prferred view or standard view, and never, ever had any complaints about our room.

The only intersting room description that I have heard so far, is the vaulted ceiling rooms at VWL on th top floor. These rooms have my interest, and MAY attract my interest in a specific room request.

Are we the ONLY members who accept fate when it comes to rooms, or are there others out there ????, OR does the mayority request specific rooms, floors, or views other than standard or preferred ??????

Maybe this should be a poll....

We've been members at OKW since '92, and I can truly say we've never gotten a bad room. The only request we ever make is for a nonsmoking unit, but other than that, we take what we get. Since OKW is so large, it's always interesting to see exactly where we end up....in fact, it's actually part of the fun. I suppose if we ever got a location that we totally detested (highly unlikely, I would think), we might request NOT to have it in the future. So we're with you on taking pot luck!

I think it depends on the resort and if you have visited before. At OKW, I don't think you can get a bad room. All views are similar and no advantages. The first time I visited each resort I made no request. I will not make requests at OKW, but VWL is a different story. I don't mind the long hallways, but what I don't like is first floor. I prefer a balcony with lake/pool view. I had a great view of the power generator that is on the bus stop side of building. I would like to avoid that if possible. I will be at BCV in September and I have requested top floor Epcot view. I think it would be great to see Illuminations if possible. Althoug the other views can't be too bad. Again, I don't like first floor. BWV, I will always request preferred view. Maybe make a request overlooking boardwalk. I think if you are a first timer, you don't know what to request or that you can even request. If you had a bad first experience, I think you will try to avoid it in the future. If you had a good first experience, you may just think that's how it will always be.

We never request anything other than non-smoking (and standard view at BWV if we're trying to stretch our points), and have had no problems so far. I rather enjoy not knowing just what we'll see outside our room until I get there; of course, if it turns out to be the waste recycling center, I might request a move!

When staying at OKW I do request a 1st floor room..... anywhere else I request to be at least 6 rooms away from the elevator (I am soooooooo senstive to the whirrrr whirrrr whirrrr, I cant sleep)

Other than that, we take the luck of the draw.

I've only gotten one a room that I was unhappy with, and that was on our second trip when we were given a handicap accessible room at OKW. The view was poor, and the layout wasn't convenient for us. In fact, I'm the guy that broke his toe getting out of the sloppy shower.

So ever since, my one and only request is "top floor." That solves both the view and the layout problems, and everything's been fine since.

I just accept what we get also. View is not that high on my priority list. Last year at VWL we had a woods (not pool side) view and I actually say a doe and fawn from the balcony one afternoon. Pretty cool for a city girl! I do request non-smoking but I don't seem to be 'lucky' when checking in. I'm pretty non-assertive about stuff like that. Last year we did get handicapped assessible (don't what to start the discussion again) so this year I plan to be more patient at check-in maybe even ask a few questions.
Bottom line - room view not real important not that I wouldn't be pleased with the Spaceship Earth view!!

I wish everyone was like you and not request any specific room location for your upcoming trip and be satisfied on where your room is located. I am a supervisor of reservations and I also deal with front office issues at a resort in Tucson Az. Its very common for guests to ask for specific room locations for their upcoming trip due to they want everything perfect for their vacation (it doesn't matter if they are DVC or regular guests) and their room location is the top of their list.

With me being in the hotel industry I have now learned myself to request certain room locations on all our reservations. I was just like you (nice) and I never requested any locations and was always satisified on where our room was located.

This January 2003 is our first time as DVC members. I have already requested at BCV Epcot view and top floor for our trip. If we don't get it, that is fine with me but I requested.

I guess I could have answered yes to both options on the poll. We have put in requests for general room locations/views but also are satisfied to let fate take its course after that. Knowing that we will be back often makes the room assignment for any given vacation less important.

Even if we got spiceycat's dumpster view at VWL, or one of those handicapped access rooms....well, we would still be at WDW and count ourselves blessed to have the means to make such a trip so often! :D

We used to take what we got at OKW, but now request a general area (South Point) because we have discovered we like that area. We don't get specific about view or floor, just like being near the quiet pool and the walkway to DTD.

hi: i prefer the standard view because we haven't ever gotten the elusive boardwalk view when we've had preferred view, even when requested at 11 months. non-smoking, top floor are the two requests i make. i did request close to the elevator once for my mom when she was with us, and wound up more than 3/4 of the way down the hall. it wasn't that big of a problem, we just put her in a wheelchair.

Sometimes when we check in, we request a certain floor, but usually we just leave it to fate!

And usually we are pleased with what we get.:D

I make requests at the time I make the reservation. However, I do not make a stink about it if we do not get it.

Have been members since 95 and have never requested room, floor or view.

Only request has been non-smoking.

Requested a first floor unit once at HHI as we were traveling with a friend who was recovering from heart surgery.

Have never been disappointed with room locations.

Yeah, I make requests. Non-smoking isn't negotiable. Some of my friends have asthma. I've also made first floor requests when I took the arthritic mom, along with handicapped rooms accessibility. At BWV, where I haven't stayed in nearly 5 years, I'd have to have an upper floor. Those boat horns are too noisy. OKW and BWV are the only WDW resorts where I've stayed so far.

I figure why not make requests; they aren't guaranteed anyhow.

It must be Non Smoking, I will not accept a smokers room. When we stay at OKW I will request a certain group of buildings near the main pool, but it's no biggie if I don't get one that I asked for,( although I always have). While I hope I never get the dumpster view I understand that someone has too,it's just that simple. If I do get it someday then I just won't sit out on the balcony to have my morning coffee. I'm not going to let that one tiny issue ruin my vacation, just isn't worth it. Now,after having said all that, I certainly hope the manager of VWL realizes how bad an eyesore the dumpster is and has it relocated. I don't think a cash paying guest at WL would accept such a view and we shouldn't be expected to either.

At all resorts, number one request is non-smoking - medical reasons. DH has asthma and can't be around smoke.

At OKW, we do request top floor and list several building numbers that we would like to stay in. I used Doc's overview of OKW to assist with our building list. We like units away from the bus stops, and where the buses turn around. We like units near the quiet pools. We like Turtle Pond and South Point areas. We've never had a problem getting most of our requests. We always take what we're assigned...and have always had the majority of our requests met.

At BWV, we request top floor, non-handicapped rooms. We tried a few time to secure a boardwalk view, but our view always turned out to be main pool, looking at that clown! lol! We purchased points at BWV to take advantage of the 11 month booking window, and now book standard view. We actually like these views better than the pool view. Truthfully, at BWV we don't spend much time out on the balcony. We do at OKW, because we like to eat our breakfast on the deck. Maybe if we had every been lucky enough to get a boardwalk view, we would have spent more time on the balcony, but it really isn't a biggie to us. Besides, the sandard view rooms we have had have all had great views of the high fireworks of Illuminations!

I enjoy planning the details of our trip, including where our room may be. We've never been disappointed, even checking into the resorts between 8 - 11 PM in the evening, we've always been pleased with our room assignment. I never go to the trouble of faxing info the room controller a few days in advance of arrival. I figure we've made our request, it's on the reservation, and our fate is now in the room controllers hands.

Until now, we have only made general location requests, such as close to the pool. However, we have requested Bldg 18 for our GV ressie next year at HH. This was mainly because we would like a marsh view and there are only 5 GVs! If we don't get it, oh well. I figure it can't hurt to ask.

We ask for non-smoking for medical. DW has alergies. That is a must. We ask for top floor, because we are empty nesters and like some quiet. As far as if we do not get the floor no biggie. Non-smoking is a must!!!

I always make requests wherever we go. Non-smoking is a must. I had so many requests on our first VWL reservation in May it was almost embarrassing. Lets see, Non-smoking, top floor, close to elevator, pool view! I did get most of it. If I looked way down to the left I could see the pool from my 4th floor nonsmoking room!! :D
