Room request for AKL Savanna View

Hello Everyone,

We have booked a savanna view for early Feb. Which savanna should I request? We have never stayed there before. Anything else I should do while we are there? Any and all info would be great!!!

Who is in your party? Kids? All adults?

There are lots of great kid events at AKL.

For adults there are several interesting talks on Africa, which we enjoyed. But the big don't miss it is the "Taste of Africa" tour. It is free for guests and they take you to Mara and Jinko's to sample the food there!!! Yummy. DH loved the night vision googles, which you can use each night (with a CM's help). We had to share 2 pairs with about 7 other people, but it was very cool.

I really wish I could remember what room we had, it was fantastic. When we checked out the bell boy told us we had one of the very best rooms. We always had anamils right out our balcony. If DH remembers I will post it later. It was far from the lobby, but we never minded the walk.

We stayed in room 3331 a few weeks ago.

I requested a room on the 3rd or 4th floor facing the Arusha Savannah and that's what we got! It was on Kudu Trail.

I had the request noted on my reservation thru cro and I faxed a request, I didn't mention anything at check-in.

We like Arusha Savannah-- 2nd or 3rd floor.

We will be going with our kids - DS 6 and DD 4. They both love animals and have been asking to stay at the AKL. We are staying at the WL for the first part of the trip and then we are planning to surprise the kids with the last 2 nights at the AKL.

Do you think 2 nights will be enough time there? Does anyone think that surprising them is a bad idea?

They rotate the animals, so there should be a good variety on any savannah. That being said, Arusha Rock view is the most popular, can't hurt to request it.

Must do's...story time by the fireplace, chat with a guide on Arusha Rock and dinner at Boma's (try the curried seafood soup.)

Our children loved the kid's club there, BTW.

We were on the Zebra trail with Uzima Savanna view. Room 2562. It was an awesome view!

Joy~We were there 5 days and still didn't have time to enjoy everything! BUT, having said that we were in the theme parks most days. I would like to go to AKL and just take it all in without ever going to the parks! I think 2 days are better than no days at all-Enjoy!

We were there last weekend and had 4425 on the Zebra trail. It was great! Saw quite a few animals and it was not a long walk from the lobby area.

I am so happy because I can finally help someone out! We stayed at AKL last year, with a savannah view, and I just ran across some notes I had made. I first decided which savannah would be best. This link will give you a list of animals on each savannah:

We chose Arusha. It seemed the most popular, and I thought seeing the zebras would be great. However, we wound up on Uzima Savannah, and absolutely loved it. We were on the 4th floor, room 4459. We had requested a higher floor, so we could see more of the savannah, and on Uzima it worked out well. However, I think if I was on Arusha, I would request floor 2 or 3, because there were a lot more trees than on our savannah, and we thought a lower lever would give a better view.

AKL is a wonderful resort. We are returning this summer. We couldn't afford the savannah view but we love the resort so we decided to give a standard room a try. Hope this helps.

We were on the 2nd floor, Zebra trail, Arusha savannah. Lovely view.

I prefer Zebra trail as it is closer to the Mara and Pool area, but have also been on Kudu trail and been happy there as well (just a longer walk!). Most people seem to want to be on Arusha savannah (myself included), but I am finding that the animals I like best are actually on Uzima so I might request that next time. Giraffes are on all three savannahs, I believe Ankole Cattle are on all 3 too. Zebra's are only on Arusha. Kudu and Bongo are only on Uzima (I think).

The main entrance to AKL is on the 3rd floor. Pool and restaurants are on 3rd floor. Lounge is on 2nd. Opinions vary on which floor is the best for animal viewing. I've been on 3rd and 4th. I think I liked the ease of the 3rd floor (didn't need to take an elevator or stairs to get to my room), but the 4th floor room provided a more expansive view of the savannah. I've heard many people say they like the 2nd floor because you are closer to the animals.
