Room Request - call or TP fax?

I spoke with a CM for a room request when we booked our reservation. I know it is there since it was noted in our "Final Itinerary" email.

However, I am wondering if I should also submit a Touring Plans room request? Does doing so help my chances (a "double" request), or does it not really matter?

Priority is connecting and a certain building (would love to say at the renovated GF).

I wish someone out there was a room assigner and could give tips! 😅

I have used TP many times for specific room requests and very rarely are they granted. I prefer having requests noted by a CM directly. I think the most important thing is getting to the resort early and stopping by the desk to see if your room request was granted. You must do it early while there is still inventory that they can play with. I find the later in the day that you check in, the less likely they can switch you if the request was not granted.

You can do both, just make sure the requests are the same and don't contradict each other in any way. We did both on our last trip and found our requests were not granted. I stopped by the front desk and they were able to switch the rooms for us - not guaranteed, but the front desk CMs will try to accommodate if they can.

I haven't had any success with TP requests. I requested a specific building at Caribbean Beach in 2006 and didn't get anything in that whole building. In 2010 I requested Casitas and got Cabanas at CSR. I requested high floor away from elevators for Contemporary this past May and initially got low floor near elevators (I spoke with someone though after it was assigned and got what we wanted) and this December at POFQ I requested upper floor building 3 and got first floor building 5...it was only one night so I didn't change it. I know people have luck with requests but so far we are 0 for 4.

Never used TP so can't comment if that works any better or not. I prefer to input my room request online (using the available drop-down boxes) or calling to speak to someone at Disney who can add it to the reservation. I thought I read older threads that faxes are no longer accepted. Seems those would create a paperwork nightmare and who knows if anyone ever inputs them?

I doubt the method you use increases your chance of success. Sometimes you get lucky and/or at peak times of the season, I would assume your chance of success goes down since so many others are also making requests and if the rooms are sold out, there is less availability. Seems to me that submitting multiple requests increases the chance of things getting jumbled (and decreasing chances for success) since they might not know which one is the latest if contradictory information is provided?

I’ve used TP 4 times and got everything I wanted every time. Maybe a room or two over but always floor. Just lucky I guess

They were all villas, if that matters.

The lines app is always better than MDE so I figure it’s worth the fee whenever I head down

And I'm 4/4 on getting the room I wanted, or something VERY close using TP.
2 Villas, and 2 Moderates. Room requests were hit ot miss with Disney.

From what I've read, Touring Plans no longer sends faxes. I think they send emails.

I assume OP is referring to requests which are more specific than the ones you can make at online check in.

I'm about 50% on the 10 trips I've tried touring plans. It seems like the likelihood has decreased over the years. Talking to the front desk early in the day is probably your best bet. I'm testing submitting a request through chat for my next trip here in a few weeks.

^^ Never tried that but since Disney assigns room a few days ahead of your visit, not sure that is a good plan. During peak travel times, there won't be many other options available. Going to the front desk when they aren't sold out might provide some other options. Some in the past have implied they like to 'sweet talk' the front desk and hope to get a free room upgrade. I think that is probably the least likely outcome.

I've had great success with TP, even better than when I used a TA.

And don't even ask about the old Vegas $20 trick of "asking" the front desk - the answer is no and you will get reamed if you ask about it on the DIS....not that I know from experience... :rolleyes1

Note: NOT that you would have considered that as an option and even though I asked a lifetime ago on here, I would have been too chicken to ever act on it!!

Carry on...didn't mean ti digress 🤣

PS 0 for 2 with TP

I've used the TP room request fax/email for our last 5 trips (all suites at AoA) and always got exactly what I asked for or very close to it. Three of the times I got the exact room I requested and twice I got the room right next door which was perfectly fine as I usually just want to be in a general area so any room on a specific hall and floor is all I'm really looking for. I don't think there is any harm in putting your request in through both sources, just make sure you put the exact same requirements/requests on both requests. The thing I like about using the TP service is that there is a place for "notes/comments" where I can say why we're requesting this specific room. So while I choose one room, I can say something like, "our hope is to be in a first floor room, close to the main building, with a view of the lake." so that the room assignor can better accommodate our request if our specific room request isn't available.

Sometimes I swear they literally do the opposite of what I request 🙄
