All the "room ready" policy has done is confuse people.
I don't think the rules of the game have ever really changed; what you get is still primarily a function of when you get in line. When we've checked in early, we've always gotten exactly what we want -- sometimes immediately, sometimes having to wait. When we checked in late, we never got what we wanted, irrespective of whether we did/didn't wait.
Therefore, I still live by the same gospel I started with when I joined DVC seven years ago:
Though shalt raise as much as possible the likelihood of getting the villa you want, by:
- Absolutely, positively booking as early as possible (eleven or seven months to the day, doing every ressie on a day by day basis, calling member services exactly at 8:58am).
- Repeatedly re-confirming your requests (including their priority order) every time you call.
And -- MOST IMPORTANTLY --
- always checking in as early as possible.
