"Room Ready" Best Check In Time

Hmmmmm Ok so we have people checking in and waiting around in the lobby and then racing each other to the desk when they thing that the area they want was just cleaned?

And will they send scouts out around the resort to see where mousekeeping is?

Will we have families with walkie-talkies posted in strategic spots, coaching the designated check-in person?

kathleena....I'd laugh if it weren't for the fact that I can bet you that there would be just those kind of "strategies" going on, and hints like that posted on this very board!!! :p

I think it will eventually shape itself into a workable solution. Not necessarily a really fair one, but a workable one.

To answer the question I posed at the beginning of this thread, I'm beginning to think that early to mid-afternoon will be the best check-in time.

I'm glad that it doesn't look like 8:00 a.m. will be the best. Nothing like mobs trying to check in while mobs are trying to check out!!

We were at BCV last month, and according to posts, the new "room ready" system was already in place there. Upon checking in, we were told no rooms were currently ready, and the CM then gave us a choice of rooms. She listed them out by floor, and gave me any additional informtion, like view. We decided to take a 5th floor Epcot view, as explained by the CM. The room was blocked for us, and I called the front desk a couple of times from SAB to see if it was ready. It finally was ready at 1:30pm and we were then given our room number. So, if there are no rooms available, it seems they are able to block off a room for you. Now, I don't know what would have happened if a room had been available, but knowing my DH, we would have taken it anyway!!!

This was our experience at BCV last month as well. We knew the resort was at capacity and that our room more than likely would not be ready, but we just wanted to swim the afternoon away anyway! When we checked in, there were no clean rooms. The CM (who was fantastic, btw) told us about our room (not the number), but didn't give us any choices. Our only request was n/s and we got that so it really didn't matter anyway. We were given our keys and went to the pool. Our room was ready around 2:30 if I remember right.

Now, at VWL, there was only a smoking room clean and we asked to block a n/s room that wasn't clean yet and were told no. I don't think the cm said anything about coming back later to try for something different, and we really didn't think about that at the time.

So, based on my experience only, if a room is clean you either take what is available or come back later. If there are no clean rooms in your room size, then one will be blocked for you and you will be given your keys, a number to call and the resort will store your luggage.

We'll see what we get in Dec when we arrive at BCV at 7:30 pm. Our requests are n/s, upper floor, epcot view. I hope we at least get the n/s request met.

At OKW in June 03, as posted elsewhere, we were given the option of taking one of the available rooms or waiting for the room that had been assigned to us.

I would not settle for "take a smoking room or come back and check in again later." That would be unacceptable at ANY hotel and is unacceptable at Disney. I cannot imagine that is what actually happened. I would rather them drag me off to jail than face my wife's fury if I let them #$&$&$ me like that.

Yes, that is what happened. DH was up at the checkin desk for over 30 minutes trying to get us a n/s room. Now the resort was at capacity and if that was truly all that was left, fine. But I know for a fact that this was not the case. We were told by the cm that he could see some n/s rooms that were "unassigned/unavailable". DH asked if we could get one of those - we didn't mind waiting for a room to be cleaned. The cm, who was trying to be accomodating, spoke with the manager who told him no, he could not block one of those rooms. A few hours later, my inlaws arrived and they were given a n/s room, presumably one of the ones "unassigned/unavailable" from earlier that had now become available. We weren't given the option of checking back later and, honestly, we didn't think about that.

We decided to check out the room and if it was unbearable, then to press the case harder for a n/s room. The room really wasn't bad, it smelled a little stale, but that's it. Either no one had smoked in it for a while or Disney did a heck of a cleaning job.

I do agree that having to accept a smoking room if you are a non-smoker or a non-smoking room if you smoke is not acceptable. Disney needs to guarantee this type of room.

I'm really afraid we are going to be stuck with a smoking room at BCV over NYE because I know the resort will be at capacity and our flight isn't even supposed to arrive until 6:30, so it will be 7:30 at the earliest before we can check in.
