No one has volunteered to be Room Parent in DS's 2nd grade class. I'm thinking about doing it, but I have never done it before.

Does it entail a lot of time? Are parents usually cooperative when asked to send items/goodies? Any suggestions are appreciated.:D

Do it! :) I've been a room parent many times, and am again this year for my DD's 5th grade class.

Every class is different. Talk to your teacher about her expectations. At our school the room parent's coordinate two class parties with the teacher and they also help with getting parent volunteers for other activities as needed. It really is NOT that time consuming, except during the party times, and it's great to be involved in the class.

I was Emily's room parent last year and I'm the assistant this year. It was K-5 last year and we had 27 kids in the class. It was so easy. Almost every parent was chomping at the bit to bring, bake, help serve, etc. in kindergarten. This year there are only 15 kids and I already can tell which parents are going to be the most helpful. It really is not that much time in getting things together, just a few phone calls. I was always at each party and that was more the time issue. I have to say I really enjoy it and it keeps me very involved in Emily's school.

Go for it! I was room mother each year from K-5th grade. It was lots of fun and the other mothers always sent lots of goodies for the parties.

I am my dds 1st grade roomparent this year. I would say that it differs from teacher to teacher. And as far as the time involved I suppose it can be as little or alot depending on the parents and also how much YOU want to do.
I live on room parent court...and it differs as to what we do with our childs teacher.

This year I am starting it off by getting a B Day card to the teacher (Oct 16), & (hopefully) with other parents help complete her wish list she had on the board at the beginning of the year as a gift.

Good Luck!

I loved being a room mother, but I never did it alone. It's not very time consuming and it's great getting to know the other kids in your childs class.

It's funny you mentioned it. I just played a message on my machine from a room parent asking me if I wanted to volunteer. I wish I could but I have a baby and I can't take him with me. He would be too disruptive.

I see your from CS. My daughter goes to park trails in Parkland.

Oh boy Rita ~ I'd be shaking in my boots if I saw you coming into my classroom!! :teeth: Gee, I think I hear Helen Reddy singing again!! :teeth:

Okay, seriously now, I think you take charge of coordinating the major parties in the classroom (calling Mom's & asking them to bring 1.) Plates 2.) napkins...etc...

I'd love to volunteer but I have a very wild 22 month old so I just can't this year.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Good luck! ;)

Rose, I'll get you for that one!;) ;) :teeth: :teeth:

Ok, I sent in the form this morning. If I have any other questions or need ideas in the future, I'll be sure to ask you guys.

lfmb~ We live in the NW section of CS, so we're not far from you.
