Room Orientation

This is my entry for the Most Frivolous Post contest.

In most DVC rooms (BWV, BCV, and VWL anyway), the kitchen (full or mini) is either on the left side or the right side as you enter the room.

Which do you prefer? Do you get disoriented if you expect it one way and it turns out to be the other?

The same right/left configurations exist at all DVC resorts- including OKW, SSR, VB and HH.

We must usually get right handed rooms because when we get a left handed room, we walk into the walls. Usually about half-way through vacation we finally figure out which way to turn.

I voted for the "leftie" but love the "rodent's heinie" choice!

Have stayed in two 1 bdrm - one a leftie and one a rightie and it really doesn't matter a "rodent's heinie"!!!

I like kitchen on the left at OKW (actually everything is on the left in a 1 bedroom). At BWV, I like the kitchen on the right, bedroom on the left.

I didn't even know there was a "kitchen on the right" configuration. Between BWV & VB, we've stayed in 7 different 1 or 2 bedroom units. All of them have had the kitchen on the left.

Guess we are overdue for a "kitchen on the right" unit. Should I just request one and get it over with? Or should I request "kitchen on the left" because that is what we're used to? LOL!

Oooohh, Carol, you're in for a world of hurt when you finally get that righty room!!!

In our first two stays we got a lefty kitchen and then a righty kitchen. During that second trip I never got a good feel for the room for some reason. It's just too wierd having the rooms look virtually identical, but always seeming to turn the wrong way to do something.

I can just see all the people who are going to make reservations coming on the boards and adding the "leftie vs rightie" kitchen in addition to the view- pool vs woods vs water, the ceiling height, the larger balcony vs shorter balcony, the handicapped vs non-handicapped, the smoking vs non-smoking etc. etc. etc.

I think I am going to be sick....

Here's my followup question:
If the kitchen is on the right, then where is the bedroom? In a right-kitchen room, if you're facing the window/balcony in the bedroom, is the bed against the right wall or the left wall?


I'll answer my own question, I was curious, so checked my guidebook. When the kitchen is on the right, the bed is against the left wall, and vice versa.

(We've never stayed in a 1bdrm before, and even if we did, we wouldn't care at all about kitchen orientation. <i>But</i>, I do have to say that when we stay in studios, I do prefer to have the bed against a certain wall, 'cause there's only 1 nightstand, and I like having the nightstand on my side rather than on DBF's side. Not that I care enough to request it, that'd be insane. )</font>
