Room Options?

I believe anything above a Cat 4. or 2 connecting rooms in any other category.

Depends on the ages. You can still have a room that will slelep 4 with a pack n play for an infant/toddler.

cat. 4 for a family of 5, but often you can get 2 connecting cabins in a lower category for less than the one cat. 4 cabin (and you get twice as much room). another option, depending on the ages of the kids, is some people book a verandah or oceanview room for the adults and an inside cabin for the kids. also suites in cats 1-3 fit at least 5, but you will need to call DCL or your TA for pricing on these.

when pricing for 5 on the DCL site, if you start off putting in 2 adults, 3 kids, the only option that will come up is a cat 4. if you want 2 lower category rooms, you will need to start off listing 1 adult, 2 kids. once you choose the category for them, you will have an option to add an additional stateroom, where you will list 1 adult, 1 child. once you choose the category for them, you will see a total price for both cabins. when booking you need to book at least 1 adult in each cabin, but once you are onboard you can sleep wherever (kids in 1 room, adults in the other)

On our recent cruise, they told us we couldn't do this (DD was 16 mo.) We got two cat. 8 with connecting doors. We tied the doors with bungee cords so they'd stay open and the kids slept in one room and we slept in the other. It was enough space and allowed us to put the kids to bed and then enjoy some us time. DEFINITELY a better deal than a Cat. 4. :thumbsup2

Cat 1 - 3 are considered concierge level suites and are priced as such. But they will all accomodate a family of 5.
Cat 4 is considered a family cabin. It's not concierge, so is less expensive, but still pricey.

Those are your only options if you all want to be together in the same room.

But as others have mentioned, depending on what category you want, you can most likely get two cabins for less than it would cost for one Cat 4 cabin and definitely for less than it would cost for a Cat 1, 2, or 3.

If you want connecting cabins with a door between them take a look at:
Cat 10 - if you're OK with inside cabins
Cat 8 or 9 - if you want ocean view
Cat 7 - if you want a navigators verandah (open air, porthole size opening)
Cat 5 or 6 - if you want a full, open balcony

You have a few other options if you don't need the connecting door and just want cabins that are next door or across the hall from each other.

The room still can sleep four but they will not allow five ppl in a room, even if the fifth is an infant.

We had to book a 2nd stateroom to accomodate our new addition. She will be 4 mos. old when we cruise. Good news is we saved $3,000 by getting a cat 8 and a cat 11 vs. a cat. 4!!!:thumbsup2
