DH, DD, and I just returned from our first WDW trip a few weeks ago. We were already looking at a spring or early summer 2018 return trip when mother in law starts talking about how great a trip with all of us in a few years would be.

I'm not sure it will pan out, there's definitely some concerns, but DH seems to think it would be great for them. Personally I think they would be miserable at Disney but instead of focusing on something I can't control, I will (try to!) focus on making the trip pleasant for all.

Which brings me to room arrangements. It'd be me, DH, DD would be around 6 1/2, plus MIL and FIL, both 60+. Both have back problems, FIL also knee problems.

Our options seem to be 2 separate rooms, value suites at ASMu or AoA, rooms that sleeps 5 at CBR, or the cabins at Wilderness. Don't know if there's anything I'm missing? And I didn't look at any deluxe options as it would likely be out of budget.

I think the last two would definitely be out for us as 2 bathrooms would be necessary. I've seen a lot about connecting rooms not being guaranteed, they would be very unhappy if we ended up in different buildings, so 2 separate rooms may be an issue. My concern with the suites is it would leave DH and I on the pull out sofa. Dont think I would have a problem with it, but DH has several sleep disorders and I need him getting as good of rest as he can. He's also 6'2' so needs plenty of leg room.

As a side note we stayed at POP for 12 nights on the recent trip, I shared a bed with DD. Other than a very crummy mattress that was replaced the next day, DH was fine with the bed there.

Can anyone comment as to the comfort and size of the sofa bed in AoA or ASMu? Would those suites be too small with 4 adults? Or any other options that I've missed? We would want to be onsite and would do two separate rooms, hoping for connecting or very close at least, if need be.

Thanks!

I've shared an All Star Suite with 2 other adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 child. It worked fine for us. But, that was back when I actually could sleep thru a night. Now I would probably be miserable.

A suite at AoA has 3 separate sleeping spaces. Well one bedroom and 2 other fold outs that are a bit separated. If you don't feel comfortable going with 2 connecting rooms I would go with an AoA suite. At least you husband could be a bit separate from everyone else.

Spring or early summer, if you were willing to make the commitment (i.e., no cancellation) a 2BR unit at BLT might be a good fit for you. BLT 2BRs are swanky, so your ILs and you would both get bedrooms, and you could put your kid in the living room. BLT is near MK, which would be convenient for them to bail for MK and Epcot days if they can't go long.

The challenge, with older people with physical issues: You'd want to book at 7 months for a summer trip, and once booked as a DVC rental (the most affordable way to book), you can't cancel.

I would look into a 2 BR suite or book 2 rooms, and put a request for near each other. We've taken my mom twice and both times got a connecting room or near enough (BC and WL).

Connecting rooms are not guaranteed, but is this a deal breaker? I would book the resort that suits you all the best, link the two reservations, and make connecting rooms the only request. If not the only, make it one of two. In the event the rooms are not connected, ask to be close together. DIsney tries very hard to satisfy requests, and while they are not always successful, they want to be. Be sure not to muddy the request by adding much else though.

Just add "traveling with" on the two reservations and Disney will try to put the two rooms close to each other.

Have heard many compliments on the AoA Murphy Bed so that might be a good option for DH and you/DD share the sofabed. You all would have your own bathroom with sink outside of toilet/tub ......... MIL/FIL would have their own bedroom and bathroom.

When we brought my mom, we rented DVC points. It was perfect. If that doesn't interest you, I'd get two rooms. No way would I squeeze four adults and a child in a moderate. We stay moderate sometimes with our family of five, but my kids are still young. I can't imagine 4 adults in those little rooms!

We did the all star suites with our kids but I never would want to do it with two other adults. A two bedroom or two rooms would be a must for me!

We did 2 rooms at all star sports. There were 5 of us. hubby and myself and 3 boys(not little in size)..11, 13 and 14 worked out well. you would have 2 bath rooms

No way would I share a room, nor would I sleep on a sofa sleeper or Murphy bed for vacation.

I'd get one room for my family, and let the in laws get their own room. It wouldn't matter to me if it were connecting or not, but I would want some privacy for sleeping and getting dressed in the mornings.

Agree it would be a good idea to be close to a park, especially with mobility issues in their 60's. It's a appx 10 minute walk in to the Magic Kingdom or a monorail ride. The Epcot resorts are especially easy, as you can take the boat and avoid a long walk in. The best value would be a DVC rental, either Bay Lake Tower, Grand Florian or the Polynesian by the Magic Kingdom. Or by Epcot at Boardwalk or Beach Club. It is true DVC rentals are non-cancellable, but a good value considering you have a full kitchen and can save on meals.

Also check the Swan and Dolphin hotels, as they have several room classes and family suites. They are fantastic hotels and a great location. Very to get to the Studios or Epcot by boat.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I'll share this with DH so we can stew over the options we have if they decide to go.
