Room only trip?

Has anyone done a room only trip? We’ve done everything Disney but resort hop and try all the bars and restaurants. We might consider a 2 day pass to eat and drink at Epcot but that’s an expensive 2 days.lol

Looks like CSR can be had for under $200 a night in early June and we do like the bar’s and restaurants there as well as the pool.

We tried the Tambu lounge last week where you can eat ‘ohana’ food for about a quarter of the cost.

I always book room only trips and book park tickets through UT. The combination gives you the most flexibility in case your plans change.

Part of the higher price of Disney resorts is proximity to the 4 parks. If you aren't planning to do any parks, not sure the extra price is worth it. We have done Orlando trips in the past where we stayed offsite at one of the reasonably priced hotels. We might do Universal one day, Epcot the next and then also go to the Kennedy Space Center. You can still eat/shop at various Disney resorts without actually staying on the property.

If we only planned to do Disney parks, we have stayed on the property. Deciding which resort at Disney would also depend on which parks we wanted to do. Contemporary isn't the best option if we mostly wanted to do Epcot or HS which are on the other side of the property.

I’m unclear if this is to be a “budget” type trip and if so, this suggestion probably won’t apply. But staying at one of the monorail resorts can be fun if you’d like to try the different restaurants/lounges/bars. The room wouldn’t be inexpensive (although there are discounts and package deals available), but the “hopping” doesn’t necessarily need to be.

Or try the resorts over by Epcot (including the Dolphin and Swan/Swan Réserve). Quite a few places to try out at the “Swolphin” complex alone. Have fun whatever you decide!

I have stayed at WL a few times and not gone to any parks (and I have an AP). If there is a resort you enjoy then it’s no different than taking a vacation to a resort somewhere else that you enjoy. You can resort hop or go to DS for dining and shopping, the resort will have a pool to relax by and beverages to sip. A well themed resort can be a vacation all on its own.

Wife and I typically make 2 or 3 trips a year. Usually only 1 park each trip that is 4/5 days total. We love to resort hop, hang by the pool, try new places without the nonstop rush of getting to the parks. Being in the "bubble" can't be beat! Staying at Swan / Dolphin or renting DVC is a great way to save money.

We regularly do resort only trips. We were planning one for our next trip next week but they had a Disney+ ticket deal for three parks (no MK) and decided to do that. There is plenty to do on property without going to the parks. We love resort hoping, mini golf and pool days.

I just booked mid June and then realize my DD will be there for volleyball nationals in late June so we might move it to coincide with that.

I already like the thought of sleeping in each morning, grabbing breakfast and heading to the pool. The Rix has a mimosa flight. Now that's a vacation. lol

I agree! We plan to try that resort one day too. Have a blast!

We have done many, have another one on the horizon. I priced out all the onsite hotels and then the ones around DS (we do not want to rent a car). And onsite was still cheaper after resort fees. So - 5 nights in the (hopefully) warm sun (will at least be warmer than MN), and we are going to eat at some of our favorites and stroll the Boardwalk and ride the skyliner, etc. We used to take the kids to Ft Wilderness to play tetherball and checkers and look at the horse stuff. Monorail riding, resort hopping, people watching - all good times!

I did that last February because DN was in the DCP and she got me into the parks. So I only had to pay the discounted price for the rooms she booked me. Well worth it. We had done that 2 or 3 times previously. We also did it in November when we just went to the Christmas Party and no other parks. We really like it because doing that and buying tickets seems to be less than straight buying a package.
