Ok, so I got the bestest news tonight! My beloved wonderful spectacular DH(hey, I know he's reading this) has said that we can go to WDW in January for 6 days using his Christmas bonus! YAY!!!! 
So we called the wonderful folks at Disney to see about a trip from 1/4-1/9and were told that we could book a room only reservation and put down the deposit (one night plus tax) and then change our reservation to a MYW package closer to the trip. The reason we would want to do this is that even though the deposit is more, if we book the MYW package up front, we would have to pay for the package in full 45 days out. We don't get DH's Christmas bonus until 2 weeks out. So that won't work. Has anyone ever booked room only and then changed to a package? Is it possible to lose your room ressie? How did it work when you did it?
