I know that the final payment is due at check in. But if I notice a good exchange rate can I pay it off ahead of time.

I'm not sure if you make a room only reservation that they wait and have you pay it when you arrive. I booked a room only reservation before our upcoming cruise and was charged the full amount of the room at time of booking.

I just played with the system right now an a 1 night room only reservation requires payment in full at the time of booking if you book it online. not sure if it's different if you call?

You would have up to 1 week prior to your reservation date to cancel your room only reservation and get a full refund.

Updated: I just looked at booking more than 1 night and you're correct you are not charged the full amount at the time of booking, only an initial deposit. It's different for a 1 night stay which is what I've always booked when booking room only.

The deposit for a room only reservation is the cost of one night (not sure if they use the first night or an averaged cost if there are different costs for each night).

So for a one night RO reservation your deposit is the full cost of the reservation.

For multiple nights you deposit one night up front and then the balance is due at checkin.

Yes, Disney is happy to take your money, so you can apply a payment toward the remaining nights at any point before you checkin. When we have done this we have always called to do it.
