Room only discount code club

I was just on the Disneyworld website and it was down for maintenance when I tried to book a dining reservation. Then I tried to get a hotel package quote and it said that part was down for maintenance also. Is this a good sign that maybe a discount will be coming out? Or is this something normal? I am a newbie!

No one knows the mysteries of the mouse...:confused3 We shall see...popcorn::

all we can do , is hope pixie dust & the magic of mickey is spread upon us, yes, lets do it disney, we're all waiting

We're won't be there until Nov-Dec 2012. But yeah...We're looking for a room discount. We got lucky in 2008 and paid an unbelieveable rate of only $49/night for most nights (AS Music). This was right after Thanksgiving. Then in 2009, the room discount was not as good as FD, so we gave FD a shot. It was waaaaayyy too much food. We normally split an entree. And we didn't like having to always run around trying to make it to our ADRs on time. So we're hoping that in 2012, a good room only discount will surface!! Pixie:wizard: dust!!

Sounds like us! It is SO much food, especially when it's hot out and we would seldom order desserts.

We would rather pay for meals OOP, order a few things from Garden Grocer and get a kick-*** hotel. We've got free dining @ WL scheduled for our January trip because it's the only discount available, but I'm hoping for a room-only discount for the Poly.

So two CMs have now said the room-only discount will come the first week of September. Also someone mentioned the new round of "upsell" pin codes that went out last week expires on the 27th. So it seems like they're delaying the GP in favor of some more targeted discounts.

DH called the Swan this morning to see if he could get their discounted rate on a refundable reservation (i.e., not prepaid). No luck. So we took a family vote and decided to keep waiting.

For us the risk is that if we book the Swan now, then it's nonrefundable and we lock ourselves out of a Disney resort. If we wait, we run the risk that there's no availability at BC or BWI for the discount and the Swan/Dolphin discount could go away. So the risk of waiting is that we would be off the boardwalk (for a F&W trip.) But we decided the benefit of being at BWI (reasonably good at this point) or BC (less likely but not impossible) outweighs the risk. So we wait.

I'm trying to only check the boards a couple times a day though to keep from stressing myself out too much. ;)

That's not the kind of news I want to hear. I've got a pkg already booked with a final payment due Aug 31st. I really want either a pin or the ro to be released before then.

How much is the room discounts usually worth? I know people who are wanting to stay Deluxe like the room discounts more. I'm considering upgrading to a deluxe. We are staying CBR right now w/ FD. If they room discount comes out, we most probably will jump on it if it's a better deal than the FD!

I think the current AP discount is:
Deluxe 40%
Moderate 30%
Value 30%

Last year the GP discount was only 25% on Value. I know there's also a batch of pins floating around where the Deluxe is only 35%.

It varies by family but typically FD is a better deal at Value, RO is a better deal at Deluxe and Moderate is in between. The more people in your party the more value in FD, assuming the DDP works for your family.

Thanks what's GP stand for? I'm so not good with these abbreviations! I'm wayyy too literal for all of that! :lmao:

I'm in and hoping. Staying at the Cabins because some friends wanted to join us but couldn't afford the WL. So....Maybe......

Not familiar with how the room only discount works, or how it has worked in the past. Will it (when it appears :surfweb:) run only through the end of 2011 or cover the rest of this year and 2012?? I don't want to get my hopes up...

I don't think anyone knows at this point, but the rumors I've read are speculating it will only cover the rest of 2011. Lost of people here hoping for something into 2012 (including me).

Typically room discounts for the following year don't come out until late October, early November, so I wouldn't expect any announcement to include 2012...but it could.

OK, thanks! It's nice to know that a discount is possible for 2012 in the next few months.

Forgive me, I haven't read but a few pages of this thread - but do you book the room you want hoping for a discount and then cancel if the discount doesn't materialize or cover your dates? I assume you can get your deposit back if you cancel within the required timeframe?

Also, does the discount usually cover a specific length of stay? We only need three nights before our DVC stay - would the discount help us?

Also hopeful for a RO discount! Last time I called the CM I spoke with all but told me that there will definitely be a discount available for our room only dates. If it comes to fruition we will be upgrading to AKL or WL our first two nights. I may leave it up to my daughter who hasn't stayed at a Deluxe yet. :goodvibes

DH and I have been discussing our upcoming trip, and given the fact that we're only going out for a few days, we've decided to keep our ressie at Pop Century. Even if there are no discounts! :headache: Darn that Disney Resort magic for drawing us in! ;)

I just started making payments on our package. But still hoping for a discount!

Definetely depends on the family. It's just me and DH and with the 40% off AP code we saved $1500 off Poly/AKL Kidani. Free dining just would have saved us $740. We do not need to buy food but with a 1bdrm at kidani we aren't eating out as much and for food we will likely only spend about $500 so still puts us ahead.

I don't think there is usually a minimum stay associated with this type of discount.

As to the first question, you'll find people on here go both ways. Yes, you can get your deposit back. But personally, I never book unless I intend to keep the room even without the discount. Discounts are available on a given room/resort type based on a percentage of availability. So even if you have a room, if the resort fills up, then the discount won't be available. So booking ahead of the discount doesn't increase your chances of getting that discount, and could decrease it if bookings are too high. Plus, I don't like giving Disney my money while I'm waiting. But again, thats personal oreference.

The best way to get a discount (and not be disappointed) is to be flexible. For my upcoming trip, I have my top choice but I also have a list of about 6 alternatives ranked in order. It also pays to know which resorts are the most popular and the smallest, and how busy your dates are, so you can set your expectations realistically. Good luck and welcome to the "waiting" club.
