We have some friends using our points for a week in December.

We will also be there for a few days during their stay, arriving the day before their check-in.

I was thinking about calling MS on Monday and adding my name to their reservation, so that I can get up early Sunday morning and go check in for them - in hopes of getting their room request, and also to maybe go in and put up a few small Christmas decorations as a surprise.

This is my question. I'm assuming that they will want to go down to the front desk sometime after they arrive and place their credit card down for charging priveleges. But could I go ahead and get their room keys when I check in? Will the front desk be able to place charging priveleges on keys that have already been made, or would they have to destroy those keys and make new ones?

They would have to have new keys, but it is quite painless to do it. It would take all of 3-4 minutes to do.

Hmmm.... If they are good friends (it sounds like they are since you are letting them use your points) you can always put your credit card down for charging privileges, then switch it over to their card at a later time.

-Just an idea....

You can check-in for them and secure the room without needing any keys or charge privilege.

When they arrive they can go thru the process again, provide their own credit card for incidental purchases and get the room keys they'll need- unless you really need a key to their room.

Enjoy!
