I asked about it when I made my room reservation and they said that as long as it was a Visa, then you could. I think they will put a hold on the card for a certain amount, maybe $300? Then charge it and put another hold for that amount.
I used our visa check card for our trip in June. All I charged to the room was the tips from our meals, but they didn't charge the card until check out. I am not sure if a hold was place on it or not because I never tried to use it all week.
They don't put a hold on it - they run it through to make sure its a valid card but that is it -- now depending on your resort level they do charge the card once you hit a certain level -- but that is not the same as a hold.

No hold on debit cards whatsoever. They don't check your available balance, either. Same thing with credit cards, by the way ... no pre-charge, no pre-authorization, no checking of available credit.
You can also back up the room charge with cash, travelers checks, and even Disney Dollars.
I'm guessing she meant the CM said it had to have a major credit card logo on it. That or the CM was just sloppy. The key here is that a debit card that does NOT have a major credit card logo, meaning a debit card that can't be used for retail purchases, can't be used to back up a room charge or for purchases at WDW.
yes you can , but be careful if your on the DDP because sometimes the staff will charge the meal to the card and not use your points .. we never put our credit card on our card if we are on the DDP because i have hear horror stories of meals getting charged ..
