Room for 6

Oh, no! We have a room reserved onsite and now my FIL wants to bring one of his grandkids (my nephew along). We already have 5 in the room. Will the 1-BR sleep 6 if we upgrade to that? I am not worried about bedding as the kids all want to sleep on their ReadyBeds, but I don't want to break any occupancy rules. Looks like we might have to stay offsite and wait in the lines!


Now I am confused. I went to the website to see what was available for 6 and the site only requires that you put in the number of adults. So, will 3 adults and 3 kids pass in a standard room or 1 br? I figure it would be really cramped, but we will be spending only sleeping time in the room. Or, are the RPH rooms huge??

did not say which hotel you wanted to stay at. You might try the portofino maybe they have rooms that sleep six. or you might look into two rooms at the royal pacific with the APH rate. if you must go off site look up embassysuites on jamacian court they hold six people bedroom, living room and kitchenette. free breakfast every morning.

My two cents.

I am not so sure that I would be as nice and you and change my plans because someone in your party wants to bring someone else. I myself would not allow it. I pay to much money for MY vacation to let someone else make decisions for MY vacation. A trip to universal or anywhere is to expensive in my opinion to let this happen.
I would suggest the person in your party secure an extra room for the extra guest they invited.

The perks you will loose for not staying on site such as FOTL access and reduced travel time to universal all by them selves would make me put my foot down. No means No!

Do yourself a favor and put your family first. Just say no.

You might try calling the reservation line and asking what type of room, if any, can accomodate 6 guests. If there are none avaliable, and your FIL still insists on bringing your nephew, you may suggest that he pay for a separate room. FOTL is such a GREAT perk that it would be a terrible shame for something like this to make you miss out. We had 2 adults and 3 children in a standard room at the RPR and there was not room for one more.

Thanks! FIL goes on about 75% of our vacations with us and he thinks that we should take the nephew because me took the nephews sisters on many vacations with us. Prior to them being teenagers and wanting nothing to do with us and prior to having our own kids. I will suggest to him that he get another room.

You would have to book two rooms for 6 people.

The rooms at RPR are not huge at 350 square feet. You will need 2 rooms.

Thanks for all the info! It is just so confusing because the website doesn't require the number of children when searching for availability, but then when you see the room selection, maxs are listed.

I was going to take my two nieces with my family of 4 to USO until I found out from reservations that NO room at USO resorts allows more than 5 people. And even with 5, you're very limited. Six or more requires two rooms accouding to fire codes. But, if you didn't want to play honest, I guess you could somehow squeeze six in a room - but you run the risk of being ejected.

By the way, I deicded to take my neices to WDW later this year with my family or 4 so their feelings were'nt hurt - they didn't even know I was considering taking them!

You can only have a maximum of five in any of the US hotels. If you "squeeze" another person in, one of you will NOT have a room key to use for express access. You can only get five room keys and your names will be on them.

Thanks for the additional comments. I am not planning on sneaking in the extra kid. I told my FIL that price of an additional room and he said, "No way! I am not paying that!" Although it is okay for me to pay that plus the $25 extra adult fee for him! Since he doesn't want to pay any extra even though he wants to take a guest, DH and I decided that we will will take our nephew with us on spring break next year and if grandpa wants to come along we will tell him in advance to get his own room. The logic here is he is paying for himself!

I was curious about how FOTL works. Will we scan our card somewhere or flash them? I don't want to be standing around looking about how to use them and waste valuable time. Also, will the kids names be printed also? I am a freak and would worry they would drop them and somenoe would call their name. I defiantely will be holding on to them.

We bought wallets on lanyards at the gift shop in RPR. (These were also for sale throughout the parks.) They had a window on the back of them and we each put our room key in it. It was very easy for each person to keep up with their own room key that way. We had our two sons (9 and 12) and our 13 year old nephew. It's so much easier with these to just breeze by the team member at the entrance to the express line and show your room key, instead of fumbling for everyone's and passing them out to get in line. The team members just looked at the room keys and let us pass, but there was one instance on the Cat in the Hat, where we actually had to take our room keys out and the team member scanned them. The wallet lanyards were $4.95 each and well worth it. There is a zippered compartment for change and slots where you can keep credit cards and ID's too. When we went on a ride that was a little wild, we would just put the wallet down the front of our shirts, so it wouldn't fly around. I never worried about them dropping their room keys with these, although I did have to get on to my 9 year old a few times for twirling his around while walking through the parks.
