Have seen that AP holders get room discounts at the DW resorts. Is this all the time or only offered for certain dates? We are going in November and then planning trip next year in spring for flower festival. Trying to decide if it would be better for us to get an AP and the TIW or hold out and see if we get lucky and get free dining where I think you have to purchase tickets with room. Also is the discount the same all the time? Like 20% off a room or if it changes depending on time of year.

The discounts for AP holders do cover most of the year and can be up to 40% off, but you are at the mercy of Disney on just WHEN they come out and how long they will cover, they usually aren't released until two months or so in advance

:welcome: to the Disboards.

The AP discounts don't usually come out until a month or 2 before. And there are blackout dates just the GP (general public) discounts.

Like right now the AP room only discounts are only thru 4/16/11.

There isn't always free dining in November so I wouldn't count on that.

What I would do is figure out how many days you are going to be in Disney and then compare the cost of tickets with the cost of the AP. I've found that if I'm going for 11 days or more, it's cheaper to get the AP and a TIW card.

Then I just keep an eye out for room only discounts - GP or AP. If you look in the pink area towards the top of the page, you'll see discounts at the far right. Click on that and it will tell you what's out right now for discounts.

Every family is different though so what works for me, might not work for you.

If you book ahead of time and the discount comes out can you get refund of the difference?

Can someone tell me how the AP rates work now_it's been a while since i had one. Do you need your voucher number when u call? Do you actually need the AP in hand?

thanks

PolyAddict- Not if you call them on the phone you will not need AP but to go on line and look at prices of room with AP you need to have your AP card. Now before you check in your resort you should go pick up your AP.

Very disappointed:mad: in our yearly passes this year. we got much better deal with the free dining and buying two day base tickets to get that than anything pass holders offered us. Then will just use the yearly pass for the other 12 days were there and decide if going to buy another yearly pass. Have for years but last year had same problem and did not do what were doing this time and paid out the nose for dining TIW does not save that much after have paid to get it. used to be pass holders had edge on rooms but not anymore that we can see:confused3

I find the benefit to my AP to be park entries. Anything else I get is a bonus to me, although I do really enjoy having the TiW card since we don't do dining plans.

Same with me! I don't count on the room discounts, but they are nice when they happen. We're going next month and the discounts are nice and we're planning to get a TIW card for this trip since we'll be traveling with another family.

We don't rely on the AP for room discounts. We just returned Monday and luckely had a room only discount, and purchased the TIW card. We had some lovely meals at Yachtsmen, Olivias, Via Napoli, Le Cellier, Raglan Road and the POFQ food court. I just added up my TIW discounts and it came to $51.95. The card was $50.00 and we are returning in 4 weeks for another birthday trip. The room only discounts with TIW are better for us than the FD. For our April 2011 trip we are renting DVC points.

The AP vs Free dining discount would depend on how many people, and what resort level you are staying at. For Deluxe & poss. moderate, the AP discount is usually better then free dining. For Value free dining generally works out cheaper.
Currently I have free dining at POR booked for Aug, with the 2 day tickets. When AP comes out, if it works out cheaper I'll switch, if not, I'll save the 2 day tickets for another time, to either upgrade or put on another AP.

We find the best value of an AP is savings on park tickets. On stays 10 days and longer I think you would save having an AP. We are getting at least 2 trips from our AP- 7 days in Jan 11, and 11 days in Aug 2011. Way cheaper then having to get 2 sets of tickets.

Yes. When I book, and a better discount comes out, I'll switch and WDW refunds the dif. back on my Visa.

We are staying at Pop this trip. I know if they do happen to offer free dining it will just be the quick service, anyone know how much it is to upgrade to the basic plan?

What is a TiW?

Tables in Wonderland (TIW), formerly the Disney Dining Experience, offers Florida Residents and Annual Passholders 20% off of all food and beverage purchases at the participating Disney restaurants. It is a membership program with annual fees.

The price is $75.00 for an Annual Passholder, $50.00 for a second card. For a Florida Resident who is not an Annual/Seasonal Passholder, the cost is $100.00. It is $50.00 for lost/replacement cards.

The TIW Card can be purchased at any Disney Guest Services location. Annual Passholders and/or Florida Residents need to provide proof of eligibility. Note that TIW membership requires that you be age 21 or older.

If you are dining at a Disney Resort with valet parking and are using your TIW card, they will waive the valet parking fee. Be sure to advise the attendant and show your member card.

NOTE: Your check will have an 18% gratuity added regardless of party size.

The TIW discount is not available on holidays including New Year’s Eve, Year Year’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Certain restrictions may be applicable. Participation is subject to change.
