We are trying to figure out what color to paint the sitting room off our bedroom. It is a separate room connected to our bedroom by a set of french doors. Our bedroom is Benjamin Moore's Scarecrow which is a deep mushroomy/tan color. We are putting this furniture in the sitting room:

In our old house the walls were the same color as the gold in the furniture, which is a gold and black houndstooth pattern. It is the color on the walls in the picture--which never show up the same on any two computers. We like the color but it doesn't look all that good with the color in our bedroom but if we can't come up with something, we will use it. I am thinking of maybe a brick red but thought maybe someone else might have some ideas. What do you think?

I like the idea of the brick red, but I wouldn't do the whole room that way (you will shrink the room size with the color) I would maybe do 2 walls in the bedroom color and 2 walls in the red. This way you will transition nicely from one room to another. Or.....you can do 2 walls in the gold like the furniture and 2 walls in the red. That would maybe be an even better idea. Good luck!!!

It's a big room, 13x15 so shrinking it isn't a problem. We can't really use the bedroom color, it doesn't really match the furniture but we could do the red and gold.

Red can be tricky, though. It's tough to paint...it can take a lot of coats to get it looking good in my experience.

What about a carmel (sp?) color? I just bought an Eddie Bauer carmel-colored paint from Lowe's for a room in my house. It's neutral but with more of a gold hue to it. I like it so far!
