Hi all! I have a question about a split stay and charging to the room. For our trip next year, we will be staying one night at AKL, followed by 9 nights at the BC.
Our plan was to drop off bags at AKL bell service early to have them transferred over to BC, check out, hit the parks, then just head to BC after dinner.
Not that we are planning to really buy stuff that 1st day, but we will at least have our gratuities from dinner charged to the room.
Do I have to pay this at AKL, or will my bill just follow me over to BC? I hope this is the case.
Thanks !!

You will be checking out of AKL and any charges will be applied to the card on record.
Usually the bill is just applied and the statement is slid under under the door.

And if you are talking dining plans... you would have seperate dining plan credits for both stays.

No, your bill will not carry over to BC, you will have to pay off any balances when you checkout of AKL.

But the charges will actually happen after I have checked out of AKL that morning, but before I have physically been to BC.

The term "split stay" is a creation of the internet. Disney does not connect reservations at separate resorts in any way. To them, it's two entirely separate reservations.

I believe you'd still be able to charge to your AKL account for the rest of your checkout day. So, the charge would be applied to the credit card that you had on file at AKL.

By the way, there's no need to physically go to the desk and check out of AKL. I haven't "checked out" of a Disney resort in about 10 years. Your final bill will be e-mailed to you early in the morning of your check out day, and if you don't see any stray charges or other problems, you just go on your way.

If you're going straight to the second resort from the first and you haven't physically checked out OR it's not yet official checkOUT time you can actually have issues.

Then they will be charged to the CC on file for your AKL stay.

By the way, there's no such thing as a credit card on file or credit card of record unless you set up a room charge; you must opt-in to have room charging privileges, it isn't an automatic thing like at most other hotels in the country. Without setting up a room charge, Disney doesn't require any credit or debit card or cash deposit as security or to have in file or on record or whatever. The only other time a Disney resort will require a debit or credit card is for express check-out ... more on that in a minute.

So as reported earlier, any charges you make at AKL will not follow you to BC. But as long as you're okay with your existing room charges being charged to the credit/debit card you presented at check-in (when you set up the room charge), then you don't need to do anything.

If you arrange for express check-out (when you check-in), you don't even need to go to the front desk to check out. You don't even need to call. You simply vacate the room, and that's it.

Even though you've checked-out of AKL, you retain your room-charging privileges throughout that entire calendar day. Your room charge privileges don't shut off after check-out time.

bumbershoot raises an important point, though. If you use express check-out at AKL and then go to BC before the 11 a.m. check-out time, that could be an issue for you ... as far as Disney's computer database is concerned, you haven't yet checked out from AKL; you arent considered checked out until Housekeeping enters your room and acknowledges you have vacated, and they won't do that until official check-out time. If you intend to get to BC before resort check-out time, you'll be well advised to NOT sign up for express check-out and instead go and physcially check out from AKL

I don't know if it is just DVC or what, but we were told to always check out of one resort before heading to the next. Otherwise, problems can occur. We had problems the first time we checked into a room and didn't check out of the first resort when we left. But, even if you check out of AKL, your magic band should still be active for charging to your vacated room. They'll just add the bills to your original bill. Or a separate charge to your card for the stuff after check out

We have never gone to the desk to 'check out'. When we did a split stay, we provided our credit card information for room charging as part of the online check in process. We stayed at Pop Century for several days and then we stayed at AKL for a few days. All of our charges at Pop went thru the day of our check out, and charges for the rest of the trip were applied to the same credit card at the end of the trip. They no longer slide a detailed invoide under your door, they email it to you. Look in your spam if you can't find it, sometimes it ends up there instead of in the inbox.

Our 1st night at AKL is a room only (rented points). Our package with tickets & dining start that 2nd day at BC. I wanted to pay for all my tips, etc with gift cards & reward points. That's why I was hoping any charges would show up at BC, so I can just pay them down at the front desk.
I wasn't going to physically get to BC till after dinner.
That's why I was thinking if I did online check in for BC, and my dining is tied to BC, wouldn't charges show up there?
Sorry this is confusing. Thanks all.

If you have a credit card on file, they will total your charges, charge your card and email you your folio. If you are leaving one resort and moving to a second, it is suggested that you stop by the front desk to check out and let the CM know that you are checking in to a second resort. There have been issues with MB's and room access if the first resort doesn't finalize the check out process.

I would just use a credit card or gift card that first day rather than charge to the room, but that's me.

Yeah, I think that's the best way to handle the situation. That way there's no worries about which account the charges end up on.
