Can someone please explain how the room block works? I understand that I have to guarantee a minimum number of nights, but I don't understand how this 80% / 20% thing exactly works. Did anyone have problems with blocking too many rooms? Right now, I feel like I have to figure out exactly when and where all of our guests are staying. Any help is appreciated!! :thumbsup2

I'm still confused by the room block and our wedding is this month!

The way I understand it is that you can block 20% more than the rooms that you are required to fill. For example, if you want to guarantee 40 nights, you can block 48. It's not much of a margin and we also felt like we had to find out exactly who would be staying where on which nights. At the end, our guests were completely unpredictable. We thought most of our guests would stay in the value and only one couple is staying there. We couldn't even predict who would come early and who would stay late.

However, despite these issues, we didn't have a problem adding nights when we went over our room block. Everyone was able to get the discount. As long as it's not a very busy time of year, and people book before the 30-day mark, you should be okay.

The best room block advice you can get is to book one value, one moderate, and one deluxe.

How do they figure out the 20%? Do they add on 20% per night per hotel, or is the 20% based on the total number of rooms and good for any hotel, etc.?

Also, if I fill out the forms on wishbook, do I include the 20% in that or do they add the 20% on for me?

Thanks!

It only matters the total of rooms you block. In my previous example, let's say you book 5 nights at All-Star Music, 18 Nights at the GF, and the remaining 25 nights at the Port Orleans. You have to fill a total of 40 nights, whether you have all 40 in one hotel or spread out over the 3 hotels.

We never completed this in the Wishbook. We sent it in through e-mail before they wrote up our contract.

I told my wedding planner the room block was freaking me out so they didn't require as many nights from me as they ordinarily would have.

i can't remember the exact figures but i KEPT IT LOW because i did NOT want to have to PAY for unbooked rooms!

HOWEVER it turns out all my rooms booked, all the hotels are sold out and a few of my guests WHO WAITED TOO LONG are having a hard time finding rooms and now I have to send my busses to make more stops which means everyone has to get up even EARLIER.

I am relieved I don't have to pay for empty rooms though!

good luck!

:)
