Hi Everyone!

My fiancé and I will be getting married next summer (July 10th, 2014) at GF. We just got our info from our consultant about room blocks but her email says she will be out of the office until Monday and our info is due on Wednesday.

If anyone can help that would be great!

What is the average room block you'd have for 100 guests, 90% out of state? We don't know who is coming/how long/if anyone would share.

If we chose 25 room nights for the block and we need more, how are they added, can they be added?

If we have those who want to use DVC, CM, AAA, etc. discounts, how is that applied? Would that go towards the 25 room nights and how when those might be different resorts?

When you have to estimate how many rooms you need per day/per resort what happens if you don't meet the numbers you assign for those resorts/days?

We were thinking 4 resorts: Pop, CSR, WL, and GF but is there a disadvantage in choosing 4 and not 3?

What happens if we don't choose like POR and a family member would like to stay there, can they if the discount is available?

Because of the 60 day notification to drop rooms, when would you send out invitations?

Our consultant assured us that the room block info is hard to read over and figure out so I hope someone on here can help clarify our questions!!

Thanks!!!

You have many opportunities to adjust your block. You can always expand your block and shrink it up to 60 days. You can also add to one resort and take away from another. The hardest thing to do is to drop a resort from your block and replace it with another. Also, you'll want to reserve a block big enough if your wedding is at a busy time of year since you don't want to run out of rooms. I'm not sure how to advise you on how big a block to reserve. We decided to reserve two nights per family for our block, and we will not be including ourselves in the block because we can get a better discount than dftw can give us, and we will reserve well enough in advance. That way, it will help us meet the 80% requirement since our rooms will count toward our block obligation but not be part of it.

For other discounts, those guests will have to make their own ressies. They will be outside your block, but you can still get credit toward your block as long as you have their ressie number. Dvc is in this group. Basically, Disney doesn't care where your guests stay as long as they're at a Disney resort, and they will count toward your block.

You do not have to estimate number of rooms per day. You only need to meet 80% of the total room block.

Will you be providing transportation for your guests? If so, consider fewer resorts. We are doing one deluxe and one value and no moderate. If a guest wants to stay in a hotel not in your block, they can, and that will still count toward your block (even though their resort is not in the block) as long as you have their ressie number. You'll have to decide if you want to provide transportation for them then. We intend to provide transportation only from our block resorts, so just two resorts.

If a guest decides to stay at a resort outside the block, there is no dftw discount then. Dftw discount is available only for the block, but the guest is free to use other discounts otherwise which are often better than dftw.

Invitations probably need to go out by 3-4 months before. I'd lean more toward 4.

Listen to carrie's room block podcast: http://disneyweddingpodcast.com/2013/01/16/demystifying-the-room-block/

Good luck!

Thank you so much!! That was so helpful and I loved the Podcast!!!!

Just to clarify. If I block 30 room nights for my room block and 15 nights of those are used with other discounts, they will still count? So basically the room that you reserved with the block, when it's used with another discount it's basically just replaced then?

Things just can't be simple lol. Thanks!

Yes. Those 15 that used other discounts will still count. Disney doesn't want to penalize you if your guest find better discounts. Disney won't let you use two discounts though, so for example, one can't get both the wedding discount and an ap discount.
