I am guessing the hotels do this to fill in gaps.

We are looking to go on a Tuesday- Saturday and the room search shows unavailable but if i change it for a Sunday check-out, it is available.

I am wondering if this is something they can do over the phone with a Saturday checkout?

Or should i book it with the Sunday check out and try to modify the room only reservation?
Can i even knock off that last day once i book it? or would it still show up as "unavailable" to change?

this has happened to me. After phoning a cm to see my options they had to book all the days, they could not override the system. They then put in a request to a higher power to drop the day I didn't need. in a few days I received an email saying my request to drop the day had been approved.

If you book yourself and try and drop / the system will look for a new reservation for the lesser nights- and you are in the same situation you are in now. Sometimes if you call you can book the shorter stay - or drop a night - other times not - as posted above.

I would just keep trying for your ideal dates but maybe have additional resorts in mind, if you find something you like for your dates even at your 2nd choice resort I would book that and then keep looking to try and move to the preferred resort if it becomes available.

Seems Disney has changed their booking system to try and eliminate "orphan or single" nights available by requiring a certain number of days.

I have run across this issue in just the past year or so - we often "slpit" our stay as family joins us for either the beginning or end of our stays and we need to switch to bigger/smaller rooms. This results in shorter bookings that aren't always available at first but sometimes become available closer to the trip. This is one of the reasons I only book room only.

Something similar happened to me.

I booked the stay that was available, then called to update my reservation. The cast member wasn’t able to modify, but he put me on hold while he worked with guest services. In my case, it wasn’t an issue and they simply took off the day I didn’t want.

Good luck!
