When we bought into DVC getting a room in WDW most of the time wasn't a problem. SSR and OKW always had something, even 2 or 3 months out. Now it seems like if you don't book at the 7 and 11 month deadlines you're wait listing. Some friends just bought in and were told to give their guide a call for their first reservation so he could make sure they got a room. Is Aulani so big that it has overwhelmed the WDW resorts?? What is going on???

More people booking equals more competition. As DVD adds more resorts and rooms, more buyers are booking at 7 months. Just think when PVB sells out and the owners need a 1 bedroom somewhere else!

Why do you believe that? It might be true for studios in the 4th quarter of the year, but it's not an absolute statement.

Here's some hard data that shows how many studios book up quickly at 7 months, but SSR and OKW are frequently available even at the last minute. And one bedrooms should have much, much better availability.

Yea, I get that. But more owners should also mean more rooms.

More rooms but not were owners want to stay. Some buy the less expensive resorts with no intention of ever staying there. Some bought off-site resorts but want to stay at WDW resorts where they have more to do.

I think renting is getting more popular and people are booking those at 7 months or earlier. If you look at the resorts board, someone asks when discounts will come out and frequently someone will suggest renting points. The agencies are making people more comfortable with point rentals, on both sides.

I don't think Aulani has anything to do with it at all. I don't know what size unit you or your friends are trying to book or when or where. I think there are certain times of year for sure that are harder to get. Studios even at OKW & SSR go fast in the fall for F&W and during any of the race periods. One-bedrooms are the worst use of points so they may be more readily available than other units. But if you (or your friends) bought in with the intention of booking a studio for a weekend in October at less than 7 months then good luck with that. Most are already booked. Maybe that's when your friends want to go? Availability is also already dropping for a couple of the dates next January for the marathon. I usually try to book right AT / ON the 7 month window and don't usually have too much problem. But if I wait until 5 1/2 or 6 months then I run into spotty availability...
