Room Assignment

I have a friend who assigns rooms. She said she assigns rooms 5-7 days before your arrival. She works on the hotel side not DVC, they may assign on a different time frame.

What is everyone’s idea on checking in on mde? Or in person?
It makes no difference to your room assignment, as you can see above your room is assigned days ahead of time.

If you have a specific request, it never hurts to swing by the front desk before entering your room and ask if it was met. They can shuffle rooms on a limited basis with some approval after arrival.

I put in a request with touring plans and I will submit 1 to Disney as we get closer. I guess I was just wondering if it matters 1 over the other..

Proceed with caution. People here say that if you put in a request with Touring Plans, you do NOT want to select any of the room request options when you do online check in; if you do, it will override your previously made requests.

I am not speaking from personal experience. I have not used Touring Plans for room requests.

It's my understanding that those boxes will override any other requests no matter how they were made.

You can do online check-in without selecting anything in the Requests section.

Makes sense. Last trip we had 3 days there, 1 night to visit someone off property, then 3 days there. I did the room request (I had forgotten) 4 days before we arrived.

First days we got NOTHING even close to what I requested. Wanted All Star Sports Hoops First Floor and got Homerun 3rd Floor.

But the second half it would have been 9 days in advance I requested and we got BOTH things I asked for. Lesson learned!

Going next month and already did my check in and request.

If I receive my room ready message before arriving, I look up where it is to see if I am happy with it (I will actually document where my rooms are located in my category. If I want to wait longer for a better room, I stop at the desk to ask if my chances would improve if I wait. If I don't want to wait I head straight to my room and pray my band/card/phone unlocks my door. Success rate is up to about 80% LOL

For those who don't know a good way to check on your room location is TouringPlans room view maps.

What happens if for instance you use the disney online check in and pick 60s section, upper floor and then either with Touring Plans and/or calling in request a specific building/floor in that section? I'm assuming that wouldn't cause much of an issue, and would just help the room assigner with a more specific location. Or would you still suggest only going the tp/call/chat method?

If your TP request is also 60s Section, upper floor it would be fine. But if your TP info contradicts AT ALL the onlihne check-in overrides it.

Yeah, that's what I have configured and what I thought. I have 60s upper floor on Disney, and TP is building 4 4th floor which is in the 60s section. Hopefully I get my request....knowing that it is not 100% guaranteed.

Thanks!

Actually there is no way a TP submitted request would match any Online Check-in request or requests.

@Craig Larson, if you are using a TP submitted request(s) don't make any optional Online Check-in requests, just do a normal Online Check-in and leave it at that.

My understanding is that a location request made via online checkin overwrites a request made by any other means. IOW, the request you submit via TP won’t supplement your online checkin request, but instead the TP request will be ignored. Thus the recommendation to leave the online checkin request section blank and submit only the TP request.

That's interesting. I could see if they were contradictory that they would go with the official online check-in. I think I'll go ahead and clear the room requests via online check-in and then call two weeks before with the same details provided by TP.
