Does anyone know of Taxis or Towncars who will pick you up at your hotel and from hotel to addresses?

I assume you just mean within the Aurelian walls. There are plenty of taxis and they will meter for you. Your hotel should be able to arrange a pick up if they aren't near a taxi stand.
It's a flat fee from city center to the airport (or other direction). We used a private car hire for a little more than taxi because of the amount of luggage we had.

Rome Cabs and Rome in Limo get good reviews over on the Cruise Critic Ports of Call boards, although of course, not recently.

Has anyone used the Leonardo Express to get from FCO to Rome city center? Our Air BnB is two blocks from the Flamino station and I thought to Leonardo express to Termini, switch to the city lines for 2 stops and whammo be at the apartment. I know the pickpockets are professionals in Rome, so that's in issue, I was wondering about the practicality of the train as an easier means of getting into town. Of course, the amount of luggage we're dragging will be a consideration...

While I didn’t use the Leonardo Express the last time I was in Rome, I did use the metro and Trentalia trains to get around without any issues. If you decide to use it, you won’t be alone. Pick pockets are active in most tourist areas overseas. I travel with a PacSafe crossbody bag and backpack where I can lock the zippers and have never had any issues(I travel internationally yearly). You do need to be aware of your surroundings and not put your phone or anything in your pockets that you don’t mind losing. If you haven’t already, you may want to invest in a money belt. I wear one of those also when I’m on my way to my hotel. You can also wear them daily on your outings to keep your money in, but I find they can be challenging at times to retrieve it when you want to buy something (that’s the point). Here are some articles that may help you prepare: here and Rick Steves.

If you prefer to take the train as opposed to a taxi, go for it. I’ve done that in other countries as a way to get from the airport to my hotel, just not in Rome since the tour I was taking picked me up at the airport. Given my international travels, I find that using public transportation (buses, metro, trains) is the best and cheapest way next to walking to get around. My last resort is using a taxi for which you need to ensure you know the language and have the address written down as taxi drivers don’t always speak English. If you decide to use public transit, Google the transit maps and rules ahead of time. I always download whatever app is available so that I have the transit map on my phone. Most apps will have a trip guide where they have you put in your beginning and ending point. The app then tells you which trains or buses to take. Most stations overseas don’t have printed transit maps.

If you haven’t already, check with your cell phone carrier and get a “travel plan” for calling when you’re overseas. Most companies will charge a set amount per 24 hours for calls and any texts go against your regular data plan. You can also buy a SIM card in the country, but I never do that. I just budget for the phone “travel plan”. If you have Verizon, there’s is called Travel Pass and costs $10 for 24 hours. If you want to use your phone while on the cruise, make sure you only use it while the ship is docked in port or you are on land. Otherwise, you are using the ships cell tower which has a much higher cost.

Thanks; I served in the US Navy and have been all over the world - many times. good stuff for the uninitiated here. I'm really looking for the specifics on he trains from FCO -> Temini then transitioning to the local up to Flamino

It looks like you can book your tickets on-line at:

EN - Trenitalia

From: Fiumicino Aeroporto
To: Roma Termini

The regular train is 1h24m for 8 Euros, the Express is 32m for 14 Euros.

You will also need to transit from the airport to the train station. I think this is somewhere in the airport complex, but could be a long walk if carrying a lot of luggage. I'm sure the airport maps are also on-line to check the distance in advance.
